Well then you'd better go hyphenate something! 😆
(I assume from the exclamation mark that this is a joke, although it sounds like that should be a viable solution in many cases even if it is a problem.)
Tagging you bc of lack of QT notification: @freelyindependent
@nyrath I didn't know when I QT'd this that doing so doesn't notify the person quoted. I was going for boost/reply after a fashion but this didn't work well on the reply aspect.
@MartinEscardo To me, the system here kind of has a tumblr vibe (although I'm new enough that there may be different nuance in how people do it). Boosting is like reblogging without comment, quote-tooting (where permitted†) is loosely akin to reblogging with comment, and since tumblr is not aggressively algorithm-driven (though likes are visible in some cases), favoriting a toot more or less corresponds to likes *on tumblr*.
†my server has QTing but I learned yesterday that it doesn't notify the person quoted (maybe this is true to twitter; it's been a while since I was on there much, but it is very unlike the above similarities to tumblr) so @MartinEscardo
@Leftcoastbec lovely!
I haven't done any blackwork yet, part of which is just having too many interests, but I've seen a lot of really nice pieces online relatively recently, which makes me think maybe I should prioritize trying it.
@LookNoFurther @BethFishReads I've done some tatting. You can also do it with a long needle where the eye is a relatively even width with the rest. I think it's easier to form the stitches in needle tatting, mostly because there's a trick to "flipping" the stitches in shuttle tatting. (It's also easier to do faster with a needle.) But, perhaps because I've done it more, I think forming the bigger structures in the lace is more intuitive in shuttle tatting.
@HagbardCeline Also fyi, while hachyderm seems to be down right now, when I attempted to follow someone from another server just now as a test @[my username] @qoto.org [without the space in the middle] worked in that box.

@flug Sounds like a neat picture but I feel like something *might* be missing from this toot...? 😉
Using this to keep up with mathstodon.xyz
Fediverse ideas
@ster I am very new to the fediverse but saw this just as I was wishing I could easily follow mathstodon.xyz
An interesting idea. I wonder how this would technically be affected by the 3D aspect of space battles vs the relatively 2D field of naval maneuvers (that is, until submarines enter the picture).
But then I think I read something ages ago that said that aspect tends to be neglected in fictional tactics, though I don't remember if it was about space or submarines or maybe even air battles.
(also I'd think that 16th century ships were made mostly of wood, which would surely make flammability a concern... *but* they can't catastrophically decompress either.)

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 the guns were to fall silent, but shelling continued until nightfall. The war did end that day, and those who survived were able to go home.
Today we honor those who served, and we hope that one day the guns WILL fall silent and that humanity will have survived.
