@MartinEscardo To me, the system here kind of has a tumblr vibe (although I’m new enough that there may be different nuance in how people do it). Boosting is like reblogging without comment, quote-tooting (where permitted†) is loosely akin to reblogging with comment, and since tumblr is not aggressively algorithm-driven (though likes are visible in some cases), favoriting a toot more or less corresponds to likes on tumblr.

†my server has QTing but I learned yesterday that it doesn’t notify the person quoted (maybe this is true to twitter; it’s been a while since I was on there much, but it is very unlike the above similarities to tumblr) so @MartinEscardo

An interesting idea. I wonder how this would technically be affected by the 3D aspect of space battles vs the relatively 2D field of naval maneuvers (that is, until submarines enter the picture).

But then I think I read something ages ago that said that aspect tends to be neglected in fictional tactics, though I don’t remember if it was about space or submarines or maybe even air battles.

(also I’d think that 16th century ships were made mostly of wood, which would surely make flammability a concern… but they can’t catastrophically decompress either.)

In the 16th century some navys would take a ship, pack it to the scuppers with high explosives, then try to maneuver said ship into the enemy fleet...

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 the guns were to fall silent, but shelling continued until nightfall. The war did end that day, and those who survived were able to go home.

Today we honor those who served, and we hope that one day the guns WILL fall silent and that humanity will have survived.
