RPG tip from the archive: If players stall in a scene, lay out the decisions and give each one a chance to choose.

Just checked a few other instances, and wondering why so many are blocking . That's like having your email provider block Gmail, and a very weird thing to do in my opinion. Is it just fear/uncertainity/not understanding how Mastodon/ActivityPub works?

Seeing Peter Hook & the Light (, ) in Brisbane tonight!

@QOTO any plans on updating the Masto version? Qoto is still on 3.2.1 from Oct 2020.

Yes, "routed GUA > NPTv6+GUA > NPTv6+ULA"

Buying a GUA to reserve the address space, but not actually routing it (i.e. using NPT from your ISP) -- instead of a ULA -- is a nice trick (and fixes precedence issues).

However if you accept this, then there is a case for ULA when buying a GUA is not feasible.

e.g. Container (or virtual machine) network that is created on the fly.

No real chance to buy a GUA.

Working in software dev, I may spin up a small local virtual network with a few endpoints.

For this scenario you may use NAT66 if the devices need to call out (or NAT64 as relevant).

More likely access may be through a reverse proxy, e.g. one of the containers is one the internal network + port mapped.

I guess I could buy a GUA and reuse it; but what about if I want to put up an example for others to download and run -- can't really have step 1 "buy a GUA".

Same for a default internal network for something like VMWare.

Your external network could be bridged (so use the IPv6 range from your main network), but what about a private network?

(Again, you could buy a GUA and use that, but that isn't a useful default)

The cases for ULA are small, but do exist.

Waiting for The Princess Bride in concert to start.

I just started an #IPv6 compatibility database.
gosix.net
I have been working with IPv6 for about 15 years and I've always wanted to have such a database.
This way you can get a good estimate about how good IPv6 support is prior to buying or implementing solutions.
You helping to fill the database is very appreciated.

Index 2024 shows a slight decline for the latest year (2023), so when people say "it was better in the past", so long as they mean 2021 / 2022 and no earlier they are technically correct; of course we are still far better off than 2020 or earlier. Despite his blip, overall the world is still better than it used to be on almost any aspect you measure on needs, wellbeing, and opportunity. And is still one of the top 10 countries in the world. socialprogress.org/2024-social

@Tim_Eagon , and maybe . In the past I would have said , but that is now available; also has announced they will have an open licence soon.

Most of the good ones already have CC licence, e.g. forged in the dark, powered by the apocalypse, fate, gumshoe, d&d, etc. sgryphon.gamertheory.net/2022/

And of course what got me thinking about Ars again was today's announcement of the forthcoming Ars Magica Definitive Edition.

According to the announcement, the 5e sourcebooks will be fully compatible with the Definitive Edition -- which is also going to have an open license.

I'm beyond stoked for this one.

Anno Magica 2024

This is going to be a big year for Ars Magica! Ars Magica is at the foundation of Atlas Games. Our first product, Tales of the Dark Ages, was a licensed Ars Magica scenario collection. Jonathan Tweet and Mark Rein•Hagen's game was first published by Lion Rampant in 1987, then by White Wolf, and then Wizards of the Coast, who sold the game to us in 1996. Since then we've published the 4th Edition (digital bundle on sale this weekend!), the 5th Edition, and dozens of adventures and supplements. Translations have appeared in languages such as German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. Though we haven't released a new printed book since Dies Irae: A Book of Wrathful Days in 2016, the game has an active and enthusiastic audience, and the game and supplements continue to sell steadily in both print and digital formats. For more than three years we've been working on Ars Magica 5th Edition Definitive. At long last, we expect this will be ready for crowdfunding in the fall of 2024, twenty years after the original release of 5th Edition. SIGN UP NOW FOR REMINDERS! We're going to have a lot more to say about this in the coming months, and we'll be looking for feedback from our fan community. Here are some things we can tell you right now: David Chart, Line Developer for 5th Edition, has spent the last few years revising and updating its text. While the underlying manuscript is the 5th Edition text, extensive revisions reflect decades of play and incorporate a host of new material published since the original rulebook's release. Ars Magica 5th Edition Definitive is a much bigger book than the original! We'll release a deluxe, full color, hardcover print edition of the Definitive core rulebook, with new art and layout and heirloom production quality.Ars Magica 5th Edition Definitive will have an open license (the lead contender is CC BY-SA 4.0, if you're curious). We recently completed our long-term project of resurrecting original printer files for the entire Ars Magica 5th Edition line of supplements, converting them to softcover print-on-demand. This means that the entire line of supplements, fully compatible with ArM5D, can remain in print indefinitely, both as ebooks and as printed books made to order and delivered to buyers anywhere in the world. We intend for Ars Magica to be a game enjoyed and creatively expanded for generations to come. Watch this space, as we'll have much more to say about what we're doing (and why!). And in the meantime, sign up NOW for reminders when it launches later this year!

adds out of the box support for creating network with level 2 constructs for dual stack VPC now merged. By default this will include IPv6 public networks, egress-only gateways for private networks (with end-to-end global addresses), and NAT64 routing for IPv6 only instances. When created as dual stack, automatic IPv4 public addresses are turned off to avoid costs as AWS will be charging for them from 01 Feb. I hope the new standard becomes dual stack, to avoid those costs, and start having IPv6 as the default. github.com/aws/aws-cdk/pull/28

Here's @troyhunt , kicking off @NDC_Conferences with "How I met your data" 😂

@molly0xfff copyright protects copying, it does not protect training. I can not copy works of art from others, but I can learn from their techniques, being inspired by them, etc. Otherwise no one who has ever read a book would be allowed to write one, as the writing techniques they learned would be illegal.

@jane_cates there was a lot of crap masquerading as but the actual (multi team) systems like and are still going strong after 10-15 years, if you check their latest prices. But volatility is still too high, although probably no worse than some fiat currencies, and at least not controlled by a government.

We have a Motif SRD available to make your own Runs On Motif games and system-neutral Motif tools. Make anything from a simple Motif oracle for your game to an entire #TTRPG based upon it. Open license. PWYW. Check it out today! drivethrurpg.com/product/36140
