@obi oh no doubt, I was just using this as an example that I don't think anybody besides the lottery or Congress would stop us 😂
I'm amateur and I could do better, he couldn't even keep his eye on the ball, and he used a 6 iron! What's he thinking?!
@obi launch angle is easier than that, in fact, the time is more important, in more interesting fact, the earth sets and rises from the horizon of the moon. When we shoot, the earth won't be visible yet because of the balls travel time. Remember, the earth will be moving faster than our ball. 😶 I'm suddenly humbled 😂
I don't think you should head the entire burden, cause I'd enjoy this round of golf probably just as much as you. While you're buying the lotto ticket, I'll write my congressman.
Also don't forget, Alan Shepard tried this already. NASA is pro moon golfing.
@jkr and then there's the inside, and entropy, and composition, and symbolism, and intrinsic value, and sentimental value, and scale, and intellectual value, and existential value (cause let's face it, it's computer generated.. does it really exist?), and educational value, and temperature, and most importantly.. does mom know you took it from Jason at the last work party?
The problem with seeking additional perspectives on any given subject, is that they're infinite. To add greater chaos, even if 2 individuals observed the same infinite perspectives, their valuations of the observations can be different as well.
Also we can deliver our perspectives to others, but we can't understand it for them.
But hey, these are just different ways of looking at it. 😂
Hope you have a good weekend. 😁
@diverzija and while capitalism provided resources to the workers, most other -isms do that too.
@nullifidian I'm not sure what you're working on, but somebody explained to me that fields that require a degree of creativity, create imposter syndrome easier because what you're doing comes with the feeling that nobody else is doing what you're doing, which maybe true. But if you're creating something new, that's the way it is. Also, anytime you have to "trial & error" something, can also yield that feeling because you know you don't know. But both doing something that nobody else is doing, or trial & error are both normal parts of a creative work cycle. Hope this helps 🤷
@obi Well since we're doing this right. Dimples will be a major factor. There's 7000 miles of atmosphere. So plenty for them to grab. But I propose this. A multistage golfball in which once the dimples, and compound layers served their purpose they burn off leaving a laser cut carbon ceramic core. The terminal velocity of a regular golfball is 240mph, ours will be faster due to lack of dimples and additional core weight. This will help dramatically with accuracy. The real trouble won't be the lower atmosphere but the upper, the winds are much much higher. So whatever course is chosen should be as far away from the jet stream as possible, and as close to the moon as possible, so along the equatorial axis, as an added bonus, the Coriolis effect in that area is also minimal, I'm gonna suggest to the PGA that they add a rule. "If the crater left by the golfball consumes the hole and flag, it's counted as good". Also, I'm not sure how we can yell "FORRRRE!!!" to a 5000sqm radius of people. I think you're right about the physicist. Lucky we're on a STEM instance and can summon their help with hashtags. #physics #physicist #thermodynamics #astrophysics 😂
@obi There's a Christmas special on that club, $995 as if that matters on a moon trip. Also, diamond golf balls don't compress. 😂 But could be with a glow in the dark core. Which would probably look insanely amazing. Honestly, I wouldn't have bought Twitter, I would probably be on my 3rd trip for moon golf already. Night golfing sounds awesome. I could think of a few courses I'd love to do play at night. You know what though, if we went to the ISS, we could just attach a platform to the station, and could hit the ball with a regular club pretty into the Earth's atmosphere easily. And the ISS has a toilet. I bet going to the ISS is cheaper too. But it doesn't carry the same bragging rights back at the clubhouse.
@obi no way really?, I don't think I could do it even with my titanium Ping 1 driver. I could be wrong, but you're forgetting one small detail. While there's no wind resistance, that damn planetoid is 100% sand trap, and finding a transparent golfball if it flies to the dark side will be hard. It's still probably a good idea to bring a few regular golf balls for practice shots. At least for me.
@obi yes but for 4 people, if we find 2 more it's only about a billion a pop. You were pro, at least you could get a sponsor. We'd also need the golfballs to be rocket propelled which is ironically still bares the acronym RPG.
@obi Wow,17 years in the business! I've only ever played for fun, it relaxes me and I don't want it to stress me out. But back to serious business, I wonder what costs more. A bucket of golf-ball-cut diamonds, or the trip there.😂 Also apparently gotta hit the ball at least 2.38 km/s to break the moon's gravity. It's been a while, I should hit the links again.
@obi good thinking, I wonder if someone makes a golf ball that won't burn up entering the Earth's atmosphere, cause if I can land an eagle at Pebble Beach from the moon, I think they give you a free T-Shirt.
@obi when you say "we", do you mean you and your friends, or you and me? I don't even know what to wear for a trip like that, are there seasons? Do I need my golf shoes?
@taz Hehe, I know what you mean about the muscle memory and remapping WP tables.
I haven't tried Neo4J, that good eh?
@engelbart I'm a fan of performance. That's why I ditched PHP for Node and Python. I've created tiny services in all 3 + rust. Rust blew them away performance wise. I know node has quite a while to go. But I want my apps and services to be as efficient as possible.
@deadbeef So many highly intelligent people here. Things qoto has done for me.
1) Educated me
2) Humbled me
3) Increased faith in humanity
4) Made me slow down and think more
5) Made me laugh
I've never imagined a social network was capable of such things.
Have a great weekend and welcome! 😁
@engelbart Please motivate me to learn rust. I'm a node developer. I've gotten quite comfortable with it. But I know rust is where the future is.
@taz I know it is, I read this article that said the entire internet is over 70% WP based sites. I built a node.js / mongodb setup that runs UI/UX wise like a WP site with some common plugins. The WP site has been heavily optimized. So much that I hard coded the plugins into the core. My node site still runs about 6700% to7400% faster consistently. I should also note I used websockets instead of REST API on mine. But when I run the comparison for clients, I give them both options, and I clearly tell them that everything will take longer going with a Node or Rust based system, if they still don't want it, I show them the list of top 10,000 sites on the internet and challenge them to find a single WP powered one. If they still don't want it. I leave. I try to stay cutting edge with the tech I sell so I can get a decent profit margin. It's so hard though. But after a while, I got some great clients. I tell you what though. If you take a WP job and you charge the client by the hour, that's good money. Sometimes I wish I would have become a scuba instructor or something. 😂 22 years in this business, ugh.
Gratuitous tech ranting.
I'm so tired of libraries, packages, sdks, frameworks, and open-sourced all-in-one miracle platforms.
I get it, try and save time. But you end up with a birds nest of code that most of which is unnecessary. This results in either giant server resource usage, or it's just plain slow.
Modern tools, and languages exist that make large application development easier too. I think a lot of developers get into a comfort zone with their dev cycle and it seems to daunting to get out.
Our hardware evolves, our environments evolve, why's it so hard project management, and clients to evolve?
If you know nothing about cars, you ask a mechanic to investigate, explain, and give you options. You don't just march up to a mechanic and say, "I don't like my engine, I read about this idiot that installed a turbine in his car, I want one". This happens when you separate front end and back end also. The project designers don't know the devs are capable of automating much of the application. They just sketch out an app with as many buttons as they see on other apps.
Let's move on to the security issue. Hackers develop tools for what? Commonly used code. If you're using what everyone else is using, you're an easy target.
If you're planning to build an application, consult with developers first. Give them lots of time to do it right. Be understanding. Be patient. Don't be afraid to trash an old app and start over. Your developers will deliver gold.
@taz I remember when WordPress was epic in 2006-2010. It was like a miracle. Now it's just layers upon layers of unnecessary code. Once it's all setup, customized, it runs slower than molten glass.
You know what would be awesome? A WordPress lite or something. I have given up on PHP though.
But hang in there, get it done, you can do it! Don't forget to take breaks, it's the weekend! 😁
I'm an aspiring human being who loves all things logical and clean. I love programming and analytics. I also like dairy products and surfing. Although they're not clean. So I guess I'm a hypocrite too. I extrapolate when I'm bored. I've been told I should contribute more to society, so if you feel you can improve my understanding of anything, please do so.
