The City of Fullerton was pushing a dangerous and flawed interpretation of California’s computer crime law. We’re relieved that the city has dropped its lawsuit against journalists and admitted that they did nothing illegal. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/05/victory-california-city-drops-lawsuit-accusing-journalists-violating-computer
@fluffy At least you didn't post a bunch of garbage to mastodon. That's usually what I do drunk.
@fluffy College in a nutshell.
#PinePhone can now be purchased year round, wireless charging and #LoRa cases coming in June, keyboard case coming this summer
A patent on a “camera + computer stuff” has been used to file more than 200 lawsuits. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/05/how-camera-patent-was-used-sue-non-profits-cities-and-public-schools
@fluffy It's all the way at the foot and it's low enough to the ground that I really have to sit up when I'm using it actively. It's more for watching TV in bed since my GF likes that. Really I should swap it for the projector but there's a door and a bookshelf behind it so I'd need to get a screen to point it at.
@fluffy Yeah but I have two large ones, plus a projector pointed into the living room, plus a large one at the foot of my bed (via a ~20ft extension cable) plus an extra one that's not super large but is in a really convenient spot for relaxing.
It's more about having screens in different parts of the house with a bluetooth keyboard/mouse so I don't have to deal with a laptop.
@fluffy idk, I was able to buy one when I was building my current PC, I was worried about PD/heat dissipation though with so much in one spot so I went with a discrete GPU. I kind of wish I had though since I never come near maxing out either and being able to plug 5 monitors in would be nice (I currently have two extra ones sitting on my desk that I switch cables to manually when I need them. Maybe I'll buy one of those USB framebuffer adapter things.)
@fluffy This is almost as bad as the people putting gas in the PE grocery bags and totes.
@fluffy Haha I totally forgot about him! I should have looked for his review as soon as I heard about that game.

While Venmo offers a setting to make your payments and transactions private, there is no option to hide your friend list. It’s clearly time for that to change. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanmac/we-found-joe-bidens-secret-venmo
@icedquinn This is what I think when I hear about the camping ban in Texas.
At 16:00 CEST @martijnbraam will demo #postmarketOS and our various interfaces on #AlpineConf, and at 16:30 CEST @proycon will demo SXMO!
Head on over to https://alpinelinux.org/conf and come watch!
@52fighters @fatboy Linux mobile is getting decent, I already use it daily for my mobile OS although it required a few hacks.
There are plenty of google maps replacements but my solution is to just look at a road atlas and make a plan before driving.

Email mastodon+swiley@swiley.net (this makes all of my computers beep and turn on an indicator light and is always the fastest way to reach me.) I was on octodon a while ago but abandoned my account. I've never been a member of gab or parlor.
If you’d like to learn to program I would consider the SICP [1] more or less the peak of American CS pedagogy (at least as far as beginners go) along with “The Practice of Programming” once you get through that.
I play ukulele, I’m ok at reading music and decent at improv. I learned from Walter Piston’s “Harmony” and some of Adam Neely’s videos.
My main phone is a pine phone so if I don’t pick up when you call the battery is probably dead, the modem is probably dead, or I’m currently swearing at calls/pulseaudio/alsa. I’d strongly recommend sending an email instead.
Dispite what my web page says I’ve stopped uploading my scratch projects to GitHub once I started to understand the basics of collaboration with git. I was using the flamegraph as gamification/motivation but it doesn’t work as well with feature branch/squash merge workflows so I just keep most things on my VPS until I’m happy with publishing updates.
