My own two cents: these stories should be reported not because they help or hinder Ukraine’s war effort, but because they are what is happening. It’s just the news.
I see people are still talking about that "science is getting less #disruptive" paper.
It is, of course, wrong in its interpretation because as usual scientists don't evaluate the profit taking systems that structure science and instead treat them like some natural phenomenon.
The results are trivially explained by the way citations are structured to prop up a prestige hierarchy of journals, I already wrote about this here about the last paper that said "science is slowing down" but y'all only read 15 page papers squarely within your discipline 🙃: https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2209.07493
@kevinrothrock
Yeah, but after seeing examples of Ukrainians arguing Navalny is worse than Putin I find it hard to have a more positive attitude about his project these days.
The war has certainly devalued the moral weight the West assigns to being a political prisoner, so I'm unsure if anyone in power is even willing to pay for him.
@kevinjelliott
Interesting observation. But now I wonder if the rules were used to solve similar problems that came up repeatedly (since the core of human experience is very durable), or if they were repeatedly reinterpreted to solve new problems (because society is ever changing)?
@kevinrothrock
Maybe he's given up?

🕵️♀️ There is a lot of conspiracy about the men in military uniforms who stood behind Putin in his New Year’s address. Federal Protective Service, actors or war criminals? We found them all ➡️ https://evocation.info/en/massage-for-putin-who-really-stood-behind-the-dictator-in-his-new-year-address/

looking at the intended use of the "distinguish" template, it is presumably there to handle typos of cosmetology

In 2023, Russia plans to resume ICBM launches from Kapustin Yar. These are normally launched toward Sary-Shagan in Kazakhstan to test re-entry vehicles. But since the last such test, in Nov 2019, TPNW treaty come into force. Kazakhstan is a party https://russianforces.org/blog/2022/12/missile_launches_in_2022_and_p.shtml 1/
Is geopolitics a grift? Is it a mind palace for reactionaries? Both? Why do geopoliticians blow off climate change and environmental degradation? And what did Nazis, in particular, see appealing in geopolitics? I sat down w/ Daniel Immerwahr (author of How to Hide an Empire) for a two-part podcast discussion that is definitely worth your time. Here's a sample https://youtu.be/HGwYNigNk_I

That's just the swedish press ethical standard, without a conviction in court you got to be pretty famous to get you name for in the paper for harassment. Don't expect a national broadsheet to challenge the guidelines on press ethics over some curiosity story about a interpersonal conflict at a university

Not sure what this account will be about, mostly boosting things I find interesting.
