Interesting.
Btw, do you have any quarrels or nits to pick with the current "Fediverse" Wiktionary entry?
@freemo This was pretty much my programming language comming-of-age story, and why I chose Go (other than it had the keyword "chan").
@zleap @category_mirrory @mray
Hi, I'm the author of the two blog posts about the Fediverse.
I used email as solely an analogy. I didn't consider it to be part of the Fediverse. Email is *a* federated network indeed, but I always assumed and considered the Fediverse to be synonymous with *the* federated network built upon ActivityPub.
There seems to be an issue of etymology with "Fediverse". I've seen lots of opinions, retronyms, back-formations, redefinition, etc.
I took a small stand and authored the Wiktionary entry for "Fediverse":
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Fediverse
As mentioned there, I've also come across "the federation" and "the free network". I wrote what seemed the most sensible and exclusive definition (otherwise, why define a new word to not to be more specific in our speech?).
There are perhaps others who are more qualified to define those terms. The Internet is older than me. @cwebber@octodon.social ActivityPub co-edittor perhaps?
@mray
I always just assumed the Fediverse referred to networks using the ActivityPub protocol.

So that's what it's called! I love it.
This article on monochromatic dithering techniques is amazing. https://surma.dev/things/ditherpunk/
I've just discovered SimpleLogin (currently using BurnerMail).
I prefer the idea that SimpleLogin is open source, and I've just seriously contemplated the possibility of self-hosting it.
One of my major concerns with BurnerMail is that it could just go away one day and leave me well up s**t creek with no paddle, or canoe.
Anyone else using their paid option or self-hosting it? Thoughts?
Is your program a function or a service?

Zoom aquired Keybase, so do with that knowledge what you will.

I find the local timeline great as it is. Not to sparse or dense.
It was more of just a thought of whether you had a particular max number in mind, or if you had any commitments against small scale centralisation.
I'd imagine 13000 accounts (granted, some bots) is maybe a lot to handle. Doesn't seem like it though.
People also naturally inclined to take what they can instead of conserve, and grow as much as they can. What are your thoughts?
@torresjrjr It's not a "decentralized wiki." It's a decentralized encyclopedia P2P encyclopedia network, like the blogosphere, but for encyclopedias.
@lsanger
That clarification isn't clear, but thank you.
What brings you back after a year of hiatus?
