I don't think Meta is that stupid. I suspect it'll be more like that their own software will show ads between the posts on their own servers. We wouldn't see this from here.
And even then they have to be careful since they confirmed in the news that their software will support people moving away to other instances. So, if they serve too many ads, it is bye bye users.
Speculation from my side, but hey.. everybody's still speculating now.

Remember that there's part of the Twitter crowd lamenting about having to choose a server? Oh oh oh, so difficult.
Chances are they probably have Instagram. Hey, we can join this stupid Fediverse! And we don't have to choose a server! HAH THAT WILL TEACH THEM! (Let's ignore the fact that Instagram is basically 'their server' and in a way they did choose.)
There are always people too stupid to poop. But they can at least join the Fediverse and chances are they are already so used to ads... I mean, there are still people on Facebook, no?
@trinsec @freemo @admitsWrongIfProven @skyblond Pretty sure Meta is trying to provide additional value as well that justifies dealing with the ads. Towards this end, they're attracting big tentpole accounts, will have customized algorithmic feeds that few masto servers offer, and, tbqh, they'll probably end up raising the bar on UI intuitiveness for the whole Fediverse with time.
@trinsec
But if they do it that way then what would motivate anyone to stay on meta when they can get the same expiernce ad free by leaving and still talk to their friends on meta?
