is beautiful, as I remembered it. But I'm surprised to see the streets in the city centre so littered with rubbish.

[…] Data is being gathered by **sensors, microphones, cameras, and the phones and devices drivers connect to their cars, as well as by car apps, company websites, dealerships, and vehicle telematics**. Brands can then share or sell this data to third parties. brands can also take much of this data and use it to develop inferences about a driver’s intelligence, abilities, characteristics, preferences, and more.”_

TIL that the five tenets of include these two: “self-control”, and “indomitable spirit”.

> in·dom·i·ta·ble (ĭn-dŏm′ĭ-tə-bəl) adj. Incapable of being overcome, subdued, or vanquished; unconquerable. Incapable of being subdued : UNCONQUERABLE.

How do you control something like that?

Conclusion: taekwondo is impossible.

**Pets are wrong.**

I don't mean that pets hold wrong , of course: I mean that the idea of keeping small animals around for fun is a mistake.

Let me refine that: keeping _in urban environments_ is _almost always_ wrong.

* It's a misallocation of resources (invest that same money and attention on a fellow human being; or improving the welfare of farmed animals, which have it much, much worse than your chihuahua).
* Many pets are probably miserable (caged rodents, reptilians and birds; cats and dogs living in apartments; any animal lacking space, exercise, challenges, prey, mates, etc).
* For cities, some pets may be healthy (eg, cats killing mice), but many others facilitate disease, stain the streets with their droppings, are dangerous to people, or are noisy.
* Pets waste much-needed empathy and send the wrong signal: there are so many pressing issues, and so many millions of people (and billions of farmed animals) in need of help, and so many causes lacking funds and visibility, that choosing to buy a pet and spend money on it seems a weird whim.

Exceptions I understand: guide dogs and the like; pets for lonely people who really can't find friends or caregivers; purely rural environments.

"It is not sustainable to have a society in which the most damaging accusations include accusations that are not easily disprovable. Accusations which can ruin a person’s career and then simply be said to be “in the eye of the beholder”. No. We have a legal system in this country for a reason. One based not just on the rule of law but also on the belief in – and pursuit of – truth."

@tripu I don't like his proposals either. I think he has none except monarchy. There was a very interesting YouTube channel that explained his ideas without the verbosity. It's gone now, but I could found this video reposted:

I think Moldbug's criticism of democracy is misplaced and it actually applies to large countries/bureaucracies, whether they're a democracy or a monarchy. Small monarchies can work fine, but so do small democracies. Diseconomies of scale.

Two recent examples of why is necessary, and where our focus should be: [ultraorthodox Jews in Israel](twitter.com/Fauerzaesp/status/) and [Islamists in Iran](twitter.com/omid9/status/16962).

(* _Allegedly_; I don't trust tweets without attribution; time, places and circumstances may be wrong.)

I think these are the I've spent most time with:

* **Eduardo Mendoza**: 4 books (out of 5) of [his most popular series](goodreads.com/series/86682-el-) plus 2 more.
* **Katsuhiro Otomo**: 6 volumes of [Akira](goodreads.com/series/57444-aki).
* **Arthur C. Clarke**: all 4 of [Space Odyssey](goodreads.com/series/49122-spa).

**Marcel ** will oust them all when I'm done with his [7-volume novel](goodreads.com/series/55129-la-).

I'm so done listening to , aka . (Last time: .) Don't let me ever read or hear from him again.

I've given him enough opportunities already to defend his views and proposals, but specific ideas and policy proposals he has zero. There's a limit to how much hand-waving one can do and historical anecdotes one can point to before coming back down to earth and to actual reforms.

It's not that he's sometimes dog-whistling, it's that dog-whistling is all he does, devoid of any content.

Stop slipping away, stick your neck out, and answer direct questions. Here's a good heuristic for him and his followers: if straight answers to specific issues sound absurd or alarming (dictatorship? racial hierarchies? state surveillance? empire?), there's a non-negligible probability that your ideas are wrong.

Second time in a few days that someone on Mastodon replies to me with attacks, contempt or outrage after just a couple posts, and then blocks me.

I am guilty of replying to their posts uninvited (isn't that what all this is for?), but in all cases my comments were good-intentioned questions or opinions, not ad-hominem or hate.

My ideas may be _wrong_, but I expressed myself well within the norms of respect and civility, and I did mean well.

What's happening? Is intolerance and divisiveness creeping in to too?
