What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers $15 an hour.”

What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”

Funny how that works, huh?

@theferret

Maybe he had a good point, however msot new builds these days can be constructed in such a way they blend in better to the location, use of trees or at least existing trees not only hides buildings from view but also serve as privacy screens for that building or facility.

"

The firm has since struck a deal with Highland Council and the local NHS to pay for the building of a larger care ‘hub’ on a different plot it owns in the village. Wildland would own this new facility and lease it back to the council and health service to run it. "

At least he is willing to pay for the new facility, however the lease it back to the council raises concerns about cost now and in the future, unless there is a sort of long term lease and say a peppercorn rent, the costs can go up in years to come. They would need to check the small print in the contract I guess.

I am going to share a link to the bostonherald article too, partly as this is barely making headlines here in the UK (it could be far more promenent in the news) it also enforces the fact X is now a bad platform and those in charge need to be reigned

@skry

Agreed, lying is far easier to understand than the term misinformation.

Let’s call Nazis “Nazis”.

Let’s call disinformation, lying, and propaganda what they are too.

This isn’t about speech rights of the “far right” on some ideological spectrum of rational policy disagreement. It’s about hate speech and strategic lying to promote violence and white supremacy.

Countries have been plunged into genocide with such tactics. Speech has consequences. Social media has inadequate countermeasures. mastodon.online/@parismarx/113

I’m hearing a reports that a brazillian people have signed up for Mastodon in the last day.

It should be possible to stand up in a court of law, if charged with being pro-palesinian and cite recent ICC rulings about what s happening as a breach of internaitonal law, it should also be possible to cite statemetns from the UN secretary general, then argue the fact you are pro human life, condemn the actions of Oct 7 but also strongly condemn the deaths of 40,000 civilians, cutting off food, medicine and water, and everything else that has happened.

You can also argue that pro palestine is NOT pro HAMAS.

I just wondered how much the case against you could be thrown away if a court is presented with evidence that is very uncomfortable, esp as we are talking about the deaths of babies and children, and esp those who are too young to speak, or understand the world around them.

The Israeli army stormed the city of Hebron on Saturday, shutting down the Ibrahimi Mosque and preventing worshippers from entering.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that Israeli forces raided the Wadi al-Hariya neighborhood, searching several homes. The incursion also targeted the Jabal Abu Rumman neighborhood, where soldiers and snipers were seen taking positions on rooftops of residential buildings, they added.

@EndIsraeliApartheid

surely this is a breach of international law regarding religious freedom, For Muslims Friday is a holy day where they pray, to deny them that, is denying their right to do that.

This doesn't look good:

Eight locations experienced temperatures of 50C + this year, most of them in the Tropic of cancer.

Hotest spot was Death Valley, USA, 7/7/24 - 53.9

the rest in deciding order, all 50C + peak:

Jahra, Kuwait
Sindh, Pakistan
Sanbao, China
Tepache, Mexico
Abadan, Iran
Churu, India
Agadir, Morocco
Hassi Messaaod, Algeria
Arafat, Saudi Arabia.

Moreover, the impact of these peaks has been intensified by high humidity.
