A marine biologist told me once that a fish’s (for these purposes, we’ll consider a shark a fish) entire usual thought process is:
1. Swim around looking for something to eat.
2. Eat the thing.
3. Repeat.
I think the first one is a good film, however it did get to the point in the franchise where the shark seems to have developed vengeance, which is when the franchise became rather lost.
I do however understand the link between the movie and bad rep for sharks, perhaps turn a negative in to a positive and use to open up discussions on the subject of sharks.

Sullivan would later monitor these controls during Apollo 11 mission that put astronauts on the moon in 1969. Her job was to monitor astronauts' medical condition.

@Ciantic @jeffjarvis I've said this publicly before. The #Mastodon onboarding situation is a real problem, especially for nontechies without a lot of time to "research" all this. Frankly, I'd like to see a nonprofit create a quality onboarding and support structure, with some sort of membership fee involved to pay the bills. I realize this is controversial but I think it likely is necessary -- or else something else along these lines.
Agreed, we need digital skills tutors to cover signing up to Mastodon as part of their training packages.
Great work, thank you.

Is it OK to spend 12 months to get a visa to attend a 3-day conference?
My piece in Science (@sciencemagazine) sheds light on this issue many scholars from institutionally discriminated countries experience on a regular basis
Spoiler: 12 months, 900$, get rejected

Scientists discover the first evidence that #marine conservation helps to reduce #climate change.
Marine protected areas act as a safeguard for oceans, seas, and estuaries. A group of experts describes how marine protected areas support ecological and social adaptation to #climatechange and help in the sequestration of carbon in a study that was recently published in the journal One Earth.

Not one person has been accepted and evacuated from Afghanistan under Home Office Afghan citizens’ resettlement scheme, launched in January, with those promised resettlement facing torture and death while they wait for a response - investigation by May Bulman & Nicola Kelly https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/dec/03/revealed-uk-has-failed-to-resettle-afghans-facing-torture-and-death-despite-promise
Meanwhile, the govt has the gall to continue claiming they offer safe routes as an alternative to dangerous irregular journeys
The UK government, especially the home office are now a total waste of space.
I understand part of Brexit was about migration, however. Regardless of this we still have am obligation to refugees for example.
The current situation with people crossing in small boats, is an example of where we have failed to provide easy access to consulates, and properly tackled the smugglers who are just filling the gap.
I think we have only JUST prosecuted a trafficker after a boat sank, killing about 21 humans beings ( i use that instead of migrants) so more problems caused by a huge backlog in court cases.
So they know full well they can in effect, for money, provide a small (unstable) craft, if people die NOTHING will happen, or at least not quickly. So the do so under the noses of the French Authorities (who we are just throwing massive amounts of money at )
Surely we know who these traffickers are and have enough intelligence, evidence to hit them hard in the courts.
Meanwhile, we have recently had migrant children going missing from care, migrants fill hotels, awaiting a decision, (which seems to be talking far longer than it should) new home office staff are given cases that are beyond their experience level, which does not help either.
The home office are just forgetting that those crossing are human beings.
The whole situation is just embarrassing for the 5th or 6th richest country in the world.
