@aral Where is this ? I seem to remember a post of a bench in Canada that has a canopy over the top, ideal for homeless but also ideal for anyone else trying get out of the rain.
Just because one is lying on a bench does not make them homeless, may be more comfortable, or relaxing, Or at night lie on a bench and watch the stars.
This makes me very angry.
These are anti-homeless benches designed to look pleasing. It’s called hostile architecture. They’re meant to be uncomfortable to discourage sleeping on.
The people who designed these are assholes. They’re decorators, not designers.
A designer makes things to improve the world for everyone. A decorator takes otherwise unpalatable injustices and disguises them with aesthetics in an attempt to make them inoffensive or even desirable.
Be a designer, not a decorator.
Suella Braverman has proven she could not organise a booze up in a brewery, We have people crossing over from Europe in small boats, crossing one of the most dangerous crossings in the world, paying criminal gangs (who make millions) to make this possible. For all the talk we can't seem to find and STOP the criminals behind the smuggling.
These gangs don't care what happens to people, they have their money.
As they have said it won't stop them, sure, BUT this is because we don't have proper alternatives to passage.
We need to be opening proper consulate offices around the world in safe areas, so that those seeking asylum from danger / harm can be processed properly and proritised. We apparently have hardly helped ANY of the brave soles who risked their lives helping the Alles in Afganistan during the war, we have left these people to the mercy of the Taliban, they won't just be arrested and killed they will suffer the most horrific deaths imaginable probably (the Taliban way).
Those escaping war or natural disaster needa safe place to go, they don't want to leave their home country so passage / asylum may be temporary anyway.
Proper processing would also allow families who are split up to hopefully be brought back and kept together as we would hopefully know who people are and can do this.
While I understand the internaltional law statements on asylum seekers, surely someone facing imminent death (just say for helping others) in a country should take priority over a person who is seeking a life paying better wages, so claims should be seen on a case by case basis. I support immigration on humanitarian grounds. The UK has lost track of some of these asylum seekers including children, leaving people at risk of exploitation, criminal gangs etc, and there are just endless excuses and the usual sound byte "lessons will be learned"
Braverman is very good at doing the talk, but when it comes to actual proper action she does nothing useful at all. We need someone in charge of the home office with a huge steel toe boot to kick a few backsides so they start doing their job and not making excuses. It seems we can't even sack police officers who commit offences, what the HELL is going on.
I wanted to take a few moments and apologize to many of my former students.
In the past I said the industry needs people who look at security as a vocation and an avocation.
I was wrong.
Have a life outside of this industry.
Have hobbies that have nothing to do with your computer.
Get outside.
The problems of the industry are not problems of people not working hard enough.
They are not problems of people not being "hard core" enough.
They are problems of education and resource prioritization.
I was wrong.
I am sorry.
Stop breaking yourself on rocks for people who don't really care if you break yourself on rocks.

Agreed, any organisation needs to be transparent regarding funding, this however should start at the top with the governments of countries, as in THEY set the example.
Revealed: Exxon made ‘breathtakingly’ accurate climate predictions in 1970s and 80s
Oil company drove some of the leading science of the era only to publicly dismiss global heating
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jan/12/exxon-climate-change-global-warming-research
"The oil giant Exxon privately 'predicted global warming correctly and skilfully' only to then spend decades publicly rubbishing such science in order to protect its core business"
The internet will remember this forever too.
If you have any kind of wrist pain or a repetitive strain injury, I highly recommend trying a home TENS unit. It’s not a replacement for lifestyle changes or physical therapy. But I use mine maybe once a month if that and it does wonders for clearing up the occasional issue that would last for days otherwise.
