Students Taking Back ‘Ownership’ Of Education
“We defended these books, which remained in the library ... We saw book banning slow down, and that was really phenomenal to see.”

“It shocked me that a district i had grown up in was not only characterizing my identity as a lifestyle, as a choice, but it was calling it alternative and inherently sexual.”

Or just post stuff here, where we are more mature. and capable of seeing things within context,
How is this being allowed to fester and grow without anyone actually challenging what is going on.
FBI warns of neo-Nazi plots as attacks on Northwest power grid spike
As a string of attacks on electrical substations unfolded in Oregon and Washington in 2022, the FBI was warning utilities of white supremacists’ plots to take down the nation’s power grid

I wish the UK government was this open to new ideas etc.
Germany to join Mediterranean hydrogen pipeline project
The hydrogen pipeline will bring "green" gas from the Iberian Peninsula to the rest of Europe. France, Portugal, and Spain previously agreed to build the pipeline, which should be operational by 2030.

Florida teachers told to remove books from classrooms or risk felony prosecution.
One teacher called the directive "a travesty to education" that interfered with efforts to "connect with books and develop [a] love of lifelong learning,” writes @JuddLegum@twitter.com https://open.substack.com/pub/popularinformation/p/florida-teachers-told-to-remove-books

The rot set in during the Mid 90s when MS eventually wrote a web browser, however it broke websites as they failed to follow standards in an attempt to monopolise the internet
@futurebird There are a good few people on here at all levels of science, so hopefully someone may pick up on this.
if your efforts are useful somewhere else then they are not wasted.
My failure to get anyone interested in numworks makes me depressed. It all came down to one guy who teaches stats & just didn’t like the idea of changing anything. I did a whole huge presentation on the advantages of this less expensive, more flexible, calculator but this is why companies like TI are so intractable. No one wants to think about technology. It’s the fediverse v. twitter problem all over again in some ways. It’s hard to get people to reconsider a choice they don’t see as important.
@UndisScot It would be great to have some sort of Feditag that covers sites such as this but also @AbandonedAmerica and others so it is easy to find similar resources.
There must be some great sites in England, Ireland & Wales too.

I used to be a cheerleader for switching to the numworks graphing #calculators but I couldn’t get my huge math department on board with that decision. 😒🙄
The TI 84 CE now has a python app— and I guess that’s good enough. Only there are some things I question about the implementation. For example in python to use the math library (sine, cosine, square root etc.) you need to start the program with “from math import *” this feels … silly. It’s a calculator. Why not have #mathematics by default?
How do they not support Firefox ? It is a web browser, designed to view websites that are meant to be w3c compliant, as in you write a website and it works on any browser.
Shows how standards have fallen when these companies can't get their head around that.
I think the rest of the world looks at the US + guns and just ends up totally baffled as to why this keeps happening, so how the USA is viewed on the world stage is impacted on these senseless shootings. The BBC say that the Monterey shooting was the 5th so far in 2023. then reported another shooting in Baton Rouge, no one has died apparently but something like 10 injured.
Are we not seeing something similar with the co pilot thingy on github, where ai generated code is from all different sources, none of which are acknowledged or creators work respected.
Interested in Technology, Science, Chemistry, Education, Fediverse, GNU/Linux and free software.
