I understand your point fully. I just hope that somehow that entire movement dies, like facebook, it should die by fading in to insignificace, along with it's owner Mark zukerburg, who after being sued by everyone should be left pennyless on the streets along with his other big tech friends.
Hasn't trump already called for a 'call to arms' I responded to that by saying something like '350+ million+ people all with access to guns, what could possibly go wrong'
We should be careful what we wish for, in that respect.
Problem with some of those you mention, in a sane world they would be locked up, for life, but we have too many people who want to try and suggest it is not their fault, or therea or some other reason not to lock them up, citing they have rights.
Look at the video of the 15 year old pulverising a 10 year old, this isn't bullying it is assault or perhaps attempted murder, we are quick to make excuses, oh they have a hard life at home, broken hone, adhd, autism or something else and try and make excuses, no one thinks about the actual victim, it is never the fault of the purpotrator in the view of what I call 'do gooders' they care more about those who commit offenses, than they do for the victims, but demand swift punishment for the victim should the victim fight back against the bully.
Thing is with Trump and co is they have been allowed to get away with it, we let Putin do the same, bully and black mail the world, We let andrew tate spread his diatribe, from the start, someone needed to say no but didm't so it carried on and got worse, he became intouchable.
The famous Pillars of Creation are just a tiny part of the Eagle Nebula. They're both beautiful and hold clues to our universe.

Would Josef Stalin have decided to invade Europe at some point instead, ?
Lenin and Stalin are also responsible for the deaths of millions.

I've started to put some "thoughts on paper" about the ways that co-operatives can be used to solve our problems.
It's still a Work-In-Progress, so any comments and ideas will be welcomed. :D
It is realty sad that kids of 4 and 5 are like this, when I was 4 there was not that much to worry about.
I've since left twitter in response to Elon Musk's repeated attacks on public health and his repeated endorsement of medical disinformation. My account is locked and people can no longer see the original thread unless they followed me before I left.
In light of the Times story, I think it's important for people to see the original thread in full. I've therefore made a pdf available here:

Feel free to cross-post that link to twitter if you still indulge.
You are in a position to introduce them to the alternatives that are out there e.g fedivse, and talk to them about the issues they WILL face, bring them up to see a phone as a tool, that can be left at home and switched off while they actually explore and play, maybe, at some point buy them a proper camera, (well more basic digital camera) so they can take photos, without all the added issues of doing that on a smart phone.
Hopefully over time they can learn that the fedivise is a 'cool' place to hangout, and they are in control of their destiny and data. Very empowering.

I would not wish that that sort of thing on anyone. However based on trumps rant against LGBTQ people he wants them to die in a similar way.
@Tilopa@convo.casa if the "good side" is wishing agonizing death upon people, i don't want to see the baddies xD

Sadly, I can't read due to paywall, so thank you for the other link.
I think this is very worrying, and it seems 20 years ago, before we had facebook and smartphones, this was far less of an issue. Social media is well known to be having a serious detrimental effect on people, esp young minds, not developed enough to cope fully.
Part the issue seems to be the Algorithms that dictate what people see, time and time again we see kids being sent messages about harm, due to what they are searching for, even if those serches are innocant, kids are curious, so may look up self harm to find out more info generally after hearing about it in the news, they should find credible info, but the opposite seems to be the case.
Molly Russell is one high profile victim, there is also a report on self harm images from Plos One
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0238603
Which, granted is from 2020, but still important.
Girls worry more about how the look, it is important to them they are under a lot of pressure to conform to ther fake looks presented by influencers or celebrities or boys perhaps expect them to have big breasts, due to the material they see, giving them a skewed idea of what people look like. it is like trying to walk across a tredmill, you won't reach perfection, or the price you pay for doing so is high.
Problem is that pressure is on them from an earlier age. Interesting the CEO of samsung, would not let kids under 12 have smart phones. But everyone is forced to have a smart phone to just interact or buy items in shops for example.
I can't see big tech changing their ways as they care more about profits.
@jewwhohasitall the super bowl is one of the rare Christian holidays that starts at the start of the day, instead of in the middle of it, right?
The Event Horizon Telescope team also produced the first image of the black hole at the center of our galaxy. While calibrating that image, they got bonus observations of a distant quasar.
Nothing goes to waste!

In the aftermath of the #TurkeySyriaEarthquake last week, many victims still need support and refuge. Please consider donating to the organizations listed in this article. The road to healing and recovery will be long, so let’s lend a hand where possible.

@Mrfunkedude I'm totally open to disagreement as long as kindness and respect is maintained.
