Behold the work of Darya Kawa Mirza, a self-taught Kurdish photographer who produces astonishingly detailed pictures of the moon ...

... by zooming in close on individual tiny craters, taking over 80,000 shots of those, then compositing them together into individual, incredibly detailed landscapes

It really has been a shitty year for Internet Archive; Register didn’t even mention the music industry coming after them too. I am quite worried about IA’s future. It’s such a key part of the open web and I rely on it a lot for my own internet history work. -> “The two incidents continue an unhappy 2024 for the Internet Archive, which has lost a case regarding its right to lend digital assets, gone offline due to power failures, and endured other disruptive DDoS events.” theregister.com/2024/10/10/int

Granted this is the daily fail, but I find the part about Elon Musk interesting in this article

OFFICE OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY

ELON MUSK

Trump has vowed to establish an independent government efficiency panel that would audit the entire federal government, an idea suggested by Elon Musk.

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1

So to Quote part of this section:-

```
He has not detailed how the body would function. The government already has watchdogs such as the Office of Management and Budget, and investigators general at federal agencies.
But Trump has said the Tesla and SpaceX billionaire would head the commission.
Musk was one of the biggest donors to Republican Party causes over this election campaign, and joined the former president’s watch party at his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, on Tuesday evening. ```
So basically if you have enough money, donate enough of that to the GOP, or Trump, you get a seat the top of a new body that is created.
Surely that reads as Corruption.
@GottaLaff
I think a lot of people will stand with you, and people moved here to fedi to escape persecution elsewhere. Perhaps we all need to take an initial step back, work out a good strategy and be very coordinated in how we fight back.
Maybe a good rule of thumb here is 'Follow the science' we have access to the internet, research, and many on here are also scientists, some (or maybe many) have fled X due to the abuse they face.
So as part of any strategy, lets make sure we can cite research or cite something that turns what we write into powerful statements to get our points across.
I am especially grateful for the Fediverse today--for a means of finding and communicating with others without corporations profiting from misinformation and rage.
It seems everyone will pay the price, people like trump just blame others and refuse to accept responsibility
@trans_rescue
Unless the USA is declared an unsafe country, then it will be much harder to claim asylum in another 'safe' country.
Need to raise far more awareness of what is going on, not just on mainstream social media (where it falls on deaf ears) but on Fedi, You are stronger as a commuity, Keep positive and that you can gain victory.
It's likely that over the next couple of months, a lot of trans Americans will leave their country. They may arrive on tourist visas and without means, and we of the trans community in places like Europe must step up to the plate.
We must organise ourselves to be ready for them, and be prepared to have an American trans escapee sleeping on our sofa or in our spare room by January.
Many of us feel as though there's nothing we can do, and here's a way in which we can help.
#trans #USA
If only what happened in the US would have the decency to stay within the US. But no…the far right here already feel empowered enough to get up to shout from the rooftops. theguardian.com/australia-news
@pthane @shuttersparks @billyjoebowers @helma
How many of those trump voters even know what NATO is, Trump seems to think the US is the only country in the world.
@djnavarro
Just had someone on bbc news, talking about personality.
People remember what Trump did, but the positive things, people could afford gas, food etc, they can't now, partly as like with the UK, the war in the Ukraine impacted the global economy but people forget the global factor (or refuse to factor it)
Maybe it was better under Trump, as people are directly affected by some policies, ignoring security briefing is not seen as serious by many people perhaps, does not impact then directly in the immediate term. You need to see the wider picture.
Thank you Mastodon and the Fediverse for being an example of communicating without billionaires and US venture capitalists calling the shots. We're going to need more of this.
And now I'm going to make a list of datasets and scientific sources that rely on US govt funding and which may be shut down or at least become more precarious to see if we need to make some backups....
Thank goodness for @CopernicusEU and @esa
@JulianOliver
Big tech will be allowed to carry on, as it benefits trump and will benefit IF there is an election in 2028. Other countries such as the UK and EU countries want to reign in big tech, how we do that is going to be interesting.
@DrEvanGowan
Agreed, I can see a lot of science people leaving the USA, when things start to happen, that people here warned about we can say 'told you so' not just climate related but the stuff about schools, abortion, LGBTQIA+ attacks etc etc, oh and mass deportations
Will be interesting to see what happens to Harry and Megan, that is what will hit the headlines.
@xavier_hm
I think so yes, there is also loops which is more for short videos that is a pixelfed project but loops is very new @loops
@ravirockks @bert_hubert
You can tell by the way the audience claps at speeches by the NK leader, everyone claps in the same way, same speed. Contrast that to most other countries and people clap in their own way, Just an observation, maybe I read in to that the wrong way, but it is interesting.
@ravirockks @bert_hubert
It seems that some of the NK troops managed to shoot some russian troops, friendly fire, none of them want to be there, there is a differerence between an army of conscripts and people who sign up as they want to be in the army.
@ravirockks @bert_hubert
China has modern weaponry, it seems Russia still has old soviet stuff,
