'Spy pixels in emails have become endemic'

bbc.co.uk/news/technology-5607

I have seen links that go avia tracers rather than directly to the proper target, are we talking about individual pixels here or is this the url behind the normal links (which are pictures)

Some clearly target children who even legaly are

I was reading an article about how social media is addictive (https://craigwritescode.medium.com/user-engagement-is-code-for-addiction-a2f50d36d7ac) and it reminded me of a twitter thread from a few weeks ago written by a game designer (https://twitter.com/kchironis/status/1355585411943260162).

The thread is about the idea of "celebration" in game design, and the visual cues games use to reward you for doing the right thing.

The thought occurred then, that social media does the exact same thing. The most prominent example in my mind is Twitter. When you click the like button, what happens? It plays a splashy, eye-catching animation, the like button turns solid red, and then you see the number of likes roll up.

Twitter's goal is to keep you using the platform and to keep you engaged, because that's how they have eyeballs to put ads in front of and how they guess which ads you'll respond to. And to keep users engaged, they use the exact same tactics as video games to make you _want_ to click Like.

Would liking be anywhere near as satisfying if, instead of having a pretty animation, there was a button with the text "Like" that simply changed to "Liked" when you clicked it? I don't think so

It seems that Facebook and Instagram (owned by Facebook) continue to ignore racist and other abuse on their platforms,. AKA lets assume they condone it (other wise they would do something)

Do you think it is worth suggesting that clubs

1. Set up their own account / Instance on the Fediverse for players staff
2. Set up a 2nd instance for the supporters club season ticket holders which you pay for as you pay to be a club member or pay for a season ticket)
2. Real fans have given their detail to the club so won't cause trouble as their details / evidence could be handed to the police, they can also be banned (life probably) from the club
3. Federate between the two
3a allow sponsors to be mentioned on their own or fan club instance

4. Anyone else can join a different instance (e.g here) and sti follow the club BUT any issues they can be blocked by the club / instance owner

5. Delete ALL accounts on facebook etc, (they are not delete straight away anyway) this with any luck, would deny social media firms income and may make them clean up their act, in a similar way to how FreeSignal got signal to stop using google, perhaps this will bring about change.

Just a thought as the issue seems to be getting worse.

We need ideas, perhaps it will take a huge loss of income to wake them up

If nothing else this idea may get people here, on the fediverse and may encourage others to join too.

Following the post from Derek Caelin @Argus@mastodon.technology

on "Ethical Exploration and the Role of Planetary Protection in Disrupting Colonial Practices"

I have set up a thread on discourse to discuss further.

I think this is worth further discussion as the paper raises some very interesting points too.

LONG COVID
This was shared on Twitter earlier
styleracademicart.com

Any comments? I feel we need more data on how many people are suffering from different symptoms. As it will need to be taken in to account long in to the future.

I am commenting on this twitter post here as I will probably get a more intelligent response.

If this was the other way round, and the female Mannaquin was topless and the reference was to breasts (or a synonym of) the post would be branded sexist, offensive and the person writing it would probably be sacked. it would probably even be censored by Twitter.
