Building a Sinclair ZX81 in 2022 with all new parts

gadgeteer.co.za/wp-content/upl Some take the emulation route, but others demand a solution that’s closer to the original hardware. Following the latter path, [iNimbleSloth] is answering the question as to whether it’s possible to build a Sinclair ZX81 […]

#FreeRadical blog: "Surviving and thriving through the 2022-11-05 meltdown"

Background After Elon Musk bought Twitter and started making a bizarre series of decisions about how to run it, people started logging into Mastodon to see what it’s all about. Lots of them. So, so many of them. In real numbers, Free Radical grew by 20% in the last week. Which is awesome, [...]

@zleap I love their guides. I starting using on my Calc tests in the online course. I’m currently reading through their LaTex in 30 min guide now. Hopefully this video can teach me about the platform itself!

The Fediverse has its own video platform called @peertube.

You can follow PeerTube accounts from Mastodon, for example try following craftykat@diode.zone

You can watch and interact with the videos entirely within Mastodon, or on PeerTube itself.

Here's an example of a PeerTube server:

➡️ fedi.video

If you see an account you like, you can copy and paste its account address into Mastodon to follow it there. When new videos are published, they will appear in your Mastodon timeline.

For anyone interested , here is an introduction to Overleaf, the online, collaborative \LaTeX\ editor.

It just occurred to me that across the 4,000 #Mastodon servers each with their #MastoAdmin plus their moderator teams... we have more content moderators tracking reports and complaints than Twitter does.

For the folks who keep asking about how we're going to scale, we're on it.

#CommunityNotContent

It's nice to see people favouriting my posts. But it doesn't affect visibility (for anyone else).

Only boosting matters

Thanks for 1500 Mastodon followers :)

we do with spare change (run hacky flaky social network nodes) what titans of industry require billions of dollars to achieve (run hacky flaky social network nodes).

money is clearly fake as fuck.

hey guys from Twitter.

we are glad to see you here but please understand that the fact that fediverse is anti-viral, anti-hierarchy and anti-capitalist is the point of it

please also understand that CWs, alt text and other stuff here is not there to "silence you" — it is to allow users greater agency over their feeds for their mental benefit, and to support disabled people.

this network was built by marginalized people. who disliked Twitter for the same reasons you do.

don't bring it back.

I tried to take a photo of a grasshopper on my windshield, but now it looks like it's gigantic and destroying the town.

I've had lots of admins contact me for advice/help with server management stuff with this new influx and everyone spinning up servers. A few people have joined the .art Discord and we've made a special role for 'fedimins' (fedi admins) where we can get help and discuss mod/admin actions etc.

If you're a server admin and want to join, I'm #WelshPixie9174 on Discord - ping me and I'll invite you (but please tell me who you are, and please only server admins, I don't add random people)

Hurrah, there's a wikipedia entry on academic journals (yes, I, an academic, think wikipedia is good actually). The first journals are listed as having been published in 1665. I learn from elsewhere that peer review was introduced in 1731 by the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Super interesting. I'm going to call bullshit on Salt's claim about his essay.

One of our biggest failures as scientists is that we have allowed for non-scientists to think that one study can prove a point.
