Gotta say, #Mastodon reminds me of a more curious, more fun era of the internet. Send me cool science / tech / art / music links and accounts. I'd like this moment to last a bit longer.
Emacs does just about anything! Get the most out of #emacs with GNU Emacs Manual, Nineteenth edition, for Emacs version 27.2 from #GNUPress https://u.fsf.org/3ff
Let’s try this again. Where you at #fediverse? Boosts welcome so we can get the best sample size.
'Young life science researchers are leaving academia at unprecedented levels for lucrative jobs in the private sector. Like Gorashi, many of them are entering graduate programs already knowing they don’t want to remain in academia long-term, making their time in the ivory tower a pit stop rather than a final destination.'
If you're here on the Fediverse right now, you're probably experiencing shock.
You're coming to grips with ideas that were previously foreign to you: decentralization, federation, instances, etc.
This is intimidating -- probably even scary.
But while you might feel like a noob (and you are), you're also on the cutting edge of *the* biggest communications revolution in a generation!
@thelinuxEXP it's pretty hilarious, I have to admit. I'm still banking on the total collapse of Twitter. Hopefully open source social media takes over at last. Love your Linux news by the way

Vaccines are truly one of the greatest public health achievements of our lifetimes. We continue to dismiss the significance of those intentionally misleading the public and lowering trust in vaccines, at our own global peril. No one wants 1940s rates of measles mumps and rubella. https://twitter.com/aetiology/status/1590726653474328576

Don’t just throw away that ‘junk’ in your grandparents’ basement – Redditor discovers legendary 1956 computer in grandparents’ basement
https://gadgeteer.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/r6h1afilbjy91-640x480-1-400x300.jpg On Monday, a German Redditor named c-wizz announced that they had found a very rare 66-year-old Librascope LGP-30 computer (and several 1970 DEC PDP-8/e computers) in their grandparents’ basement. The LGP-30, first released in 1956, […]

"Musk’s new legal department is also apparently asking engineers to “self-certify” compliance with FTC rules and other privacy laws."
If you know people working at Twitter, you need to tell them to resign rather than do this. That company is asking you to absorb the institution's liability, and the muskrat will fuck you without hesitation if you allow the possibility of that happening to exist.
@zleap @derickflorian And if you’re obsessed with units (hey, I’m a metric expat living in a non-metric country), I recommend the siunitx package.
Yesterday, my local Mastodon admins called for people to donate voluntarily. So much money was pledged that today they posted a poll asking how many months of reserve funding they should keep on hand before donating the overage to charity.
Meanwhile, Elon's breaking Twitter because he desperately needs cash.
@JensHannemann do you use the same package for the diagrams you make?
That’s so cool @zleap! That is something will be useful when I do take my circuit analysis classes down the road.
My habit has been to regularly delete older tweets and to not use Twitter DMs for anything I wouldn’t say out loud, but many people default to trusting the platforms they use, which puts them in legitimate danger. When it comes to social media platforms, trust nothing. Remain mindful and protect yourself.
