Sad to hear about so many cuts around the larger security industry. We are in the midst of hiring a senior threat researcher for our team at SentinelLabs– we are fairly open-minded about the research focus. We are looking for someone dedicated to research, interesting in outputting blogs, reports, and tools to empower the larger community. The role is public facing, open to conference talks, webinars, podcasts, etc. We don't do product shilling but along with that freedom there's some element of eating your vegetables and doing things to answer tactical needs. If you know an amazing self-directed researcher who'd do great with that kind of platform, please encourage them to apply–

The job posting is totally screwed up, job is fully remote, open to US/UK/EU and broader (some countries might entail some red tape, need to check w HR), don't let it keep you from applying and we'll sort things out in the backend.

Meta, defederation as direct action
Direct action for users who care about equity in the fediverse:
- Know your instance admins & policies. Demand proactive moderation.
- White folks, follow & boost marginalized voices calling out safety/equity issues. Our local circles are often siloed & segregated. We can change that.
- If you have followers on a problem instance, let them know. If issues continue, staying connected is a safety issue—you risk exposing yourself & your instance to bad actors.

@cwebber @evan i’ve thought about this a lot. if you want to index on location info, so you can match near you, you need some third party to do “info escrow” so my location is never revealed even though we’re using it for indexing. this introduces a centralization problem: can our escrow party trust other escrow parties? and even if they could, can they merge indices? this rapidly evolves into a computer science problem.
Hey cis friends! I want to help you understand some stuff about the #trans experience that can be confusing (including to myself, before I figured out I was trans). FYI, this is intended as a 101 course, skipping a lot of nuance and detail.
Let's begin with terminology. "Trans man" means a man, frequently someone who was born with their body in the wrong configuration. Likewise, a "trans woman" is a woman. Don't overthink these. The term says who they really are, not who they were.

re: complaining about dating sites
@cwebber Spritely dating app when? ;-)
Seriously, none of the existing apps seem acceptable/usable. If I were single/looking, I'd need to make my own or trick someone else into making something better. I met my partner on Okcupid, but it seems they were bought out and destroyed / actively sabotaged, they're everything they once railed against.
Dating is too important for corps like Match Group to control it, we need anticapitalist options.

👀📚@PLOSBiology #PLOSBiology This paper shares some fascinating insights; "data show that the nasal epithelium of children supports lower infection & replication of ancestral SARS-CoV-2, although this may be changing as the virus evolves." https://twitter.com/AusVirologySoc/status/1592065601358663686
Recently, we experimented with a new social media account on #Mastodon. Now we've taken a few steps further. We run our own server open to all.
It's great to be on the #Fediverse with vivaldi.social

Yes, better science! Good theme for the future...
I also want to avoid instances full of too many Australians, too, so geographic instances don't appeal to me.
To be clear, not because I have an issue with my fellow Australians, but because to me social media is about expanding the things I see. I like following (and generally seeing) people from a wide number of countries, cultures and places if I can manage it.
Interested in Technology, Science, Chemistry, Education, Fediverse, GNU/Linux and free software.
