There seems to be a hang-up around the linguistic accessibility of conscious experience. One of the thought experiments is "Mary" the color theorist who lives in a gray world then sees color for the first time, where the question is "does Mary learn something when experiencing color although she has all the knowledge of color theory?" To me, that's not more remarkable than the inaccessibility of the mechanism by which we can instrument our limbs without knowing the precise evolution of the cascade of impulses flowing from our brains.

I put a cup of oats the dough at the start, 2 cups bread flour, and another cup of all purpose. I'm not sure what difference it's made in the end. after that it was a combination of, I think, 2 more cups AP, somewhat more than 1 cup of whole wheat. i used a muffin tin since I thought it would make my rolls look a bit funny. also they've got a good coating of olive oil and a bit more salt on that, which is pretty nice.

the loaf is made from the same dough. it's a bit undersized for the pan, and probably over proofed, but I remembered to deflate the larger pockets before baking, so I think it should hold together better than my last loaf where the crust tore away from the interior

I don't understand what the "hard problem of consciousness" is. What do philosophers mean when they say that "there's something it's like to ..."? They say "like" in this emphatic way that they seem to believe means something.

finally read up on spatial indexing. dunno what took me so long: the basics aren't much more complicated than with btrees. still need to understand some of the specifics of how some things work like adding buffers around a region or querying relative to curves (e.g. find the closest road to a river, going upriver from point x)

@izaya use more emojis? I imagine people don't read any of my posting history to pick up on my vibe, so I try to make my tone more explicit. (I still feel like I'm too old or too young for some of the emojis I use though😅 )

@maltimore that's not really news, bud. she's been public about such views. IDK about the Stalin boosting specifically, but I'm not *surprised*: would a person who maintains something like scihub be expected to hold no unorthodox views?

@izaya for me, it's a small but significant portion 😁

well I upgraded to Android 12 and the UI is a gooey pile of shit. what's the scuttlebutt on ? also is it any more customizable without needing to make a new ROM?

@izaya I'm confused weren't you playing a VN and losing posting about it but to long ago. I usually don't post about stuff I don't like unless it's important news or something of that ilk

Although this doesn't actually hold much promise on the general problem according to the outside expert cited. Hm.

ok, I got excited and posted without reading the article. This isn't a manual debris collection thing. Still, glad to see there's commercial entities doing something interesting to address this problem.

@readsteven that's just what I was talking about! I don't know what a floppy disk is, but "down folder" should make sense?
I've been thinking though, it probably doesn't really matter: humans have language and can assign meaning to any symbol they can consistently recognize (and even some they can't!). it's probably more important that the visual language you use has internal consistency, and that different icons look different enough. bonus points for using symbols (icons) your users will already recognize without training

Hello folks, I want to learn more about Chinese mythology and am looking for recommendations (please no podcasts, but everything else media-wise is ok) to get into the topic. I know that there's no single China, but several cultural regions, and I know that the legend/tale of the three kingdoms is a big thing, but I only know the beginning of it (though Total War, lol). Feel free to drop your media recommendations in English or German, thanks!

@readsteven so you're in favor of those schemes to let people "tip" recipients of private messages, for instance
