@mcc omg. I had never heard of Short Treks. So many. thanks for the rundown. I might have to subscribe then: that's too many for me to marathon on a free trial week 😄
(sucks to see that about s4 of Discovery. I really liked S1 but never watched the rest for *life reasons*)

Exciting news from #PyPI, just in time for @PyConUS:

"Starting today, PyPI package maintainers can adopt a new, more secure publishing method that does not require long-lived passwords or API tokens to be shared with external systems."

I've been part of the private beta and it works really well!

@mcc that's weird. like, S1 basically ret-con'd at least TNG history by "revealing" the Romulan cabal's deep dark secret: why go to the trouble if you're not going to build on it? Are subsequent seasons at least good on their own you think? I'm considering getting Paramount+ just to see the new Trek series.

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times now I’m writing a #ttrpg system. It has a spell crafting system, which I haven’t released yet, but I still need a list of reasonable default spells. What’s a spell you guys have always wanted to see in a ttrpg? Or one you think is a necessity/mainstay?

Boost for visibility

@mcc you didn't like "Picard"? I only saw S1 and liked it overall, but was unclear on what even made sense to do next in the story.

The birds are back in town!

Again, couldn't tell ya if they're the same birds, but this morning I saw a couple of barn swallows flying to and from the nest over my door. I'm glad I didn't destroy the nest last time: it's great to see them again 😄

@JamesGleick I actually muted @pluralistic for quite a while because I couldn't stand my feed being flooded with his posts. It's much more manageable now with the CWs since I can visually filter when I want or click into a thread when I want.

pesto is great for when you want pasta but you're too lazy to spend time making a proper sauce

I need to always keep this in mind while interacting with people.

Cool pic and great story!
"In the early hours of Saturday morning, Todd Salat was outside near Delta Junction doing he what he does often: directing his camera at the sky, hoping to capture dazzling images of the aurora borealis.

That’s when the Anchorage-based photographer saw something wild — a sudden, bright light on the northern horizon that quickly started to take on a spiral shape as it drew nearer.

“It got bigger and bigger,” Salat said Saturday. “And I had absolutely no idea what it was.”

The white-ish blue spiral appeared to moving quickly. After about five minutes, it was almost overhead, he said.

“It was a beautiful piece of art in the sky,” he said. “I would say this was maybe the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen in my life."
It was rocket engine exhaust from a SpaceX Transporter-7 mission that launched on the Falcon 9 in CA.

"instead of voting, people..."
NO
there is no downside to trying to improve the world in every way possible
you should still engage in direct action! or any other approach you see fit! but voting might make a nonzero difference, so you shouldn't totally discount it entirely

It's so "funny" when someone posts a link to a study claiming that it demonstrates some risk when the paper actually provides evidence that the opposite case is true right in the abstract.

I have an indoor cat. She greets me at the front door, like a good indoor cat.
Except this morning, when I returned home in an unfamiliar car, from the wrong direction. As I got out of the car I saw my good indoor cat barrel down a treetrunk, scoot across the lawn, and leap up a wall and through a window I didn't know she could access.
Then she demurely greeted me at the front door like any good indoor cat.
How long has this been going on?

second stage application paperwork, wants me to upload a copy of my birth certificate. then requires me to fill in an expiration date for it.

if I knew when my birth would expire I don't think I'd be applying for helpdesk jobs
