Periodic request for recommendations of people to follow on Mastodon, since I'm still trying to rebuild my casual "follow for specific topic" list. Topics include:
* Classicists & archeologists, any
* Pigeon enthusiasts
* Official accounts for weather, national parks, aquariums, etc.
* Sled dog folks
* People really into birds and/or trees
* (Especially wildlife rehab folks)
* 3D art folks: clay, carving, that kind of thing
* Biologists who post excited threads about their areas of study
I'm usually hesitant to share too much about my son, Ripley, or his situation but our situation (US, WV/OH) changed last week. Ripley is about 18 months old and we've known since he was born that he would need a #KidneyTransplant once he was big enough. Until last week, our plan was for him to get one of mine. Unfortunately, I was disqualified, so we're on the hunt for a kidney! If you or someone you know would have any interest in being screened, you can visit https://ripley.love (1/2)
@2ck o Amnesty International runs an annual Nowruz action campaign and Nilou is on the list of prisoners for the 2023 action. The action involves writing virtual or physical greeting cards to send to prisoners in Iran. More information is here: https://www.amnestyusa.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Nowruz-action-2023.pdf
Does anyone in #Montevideo #Uruguay have connections with social workers/mutual aid networks? My cousins there are experiencing a complex crisis of mental health and extreme poverty and struggling to access services.

As of today, all 122 NWS stations that the University of Iowa created rss feeds for are now published on Mastodon. The best way to find them is to search for "iembot_" and the three letter assigned to the NWS forecast office. In addition, the NHC Atlantic Officeis published at @iembot_nhc_atlantic . These are not official bots from the NWS or University of Iowa. There were put together by a group of "weather intensive" people in order to inform like minded Mastodon users of weather forecasts and other reports that the National Weather Service in the US sends out.
I wonder how you'd do an imageboard-style interface on the fediverse. I first thought you could just use mastodon, but emphasize the use of hashtags as topics; however, that doesn't match up with how people use hashtags and also doesn't allow for proper moderation.
so i think each board would be a group. it doesn't lend itself immediately to shared groups across instances though. like, you'd have a technology@server.x and technology@server.y and technology@server.z, etc. because they're all created in ignorance or defiance of the others...
Alrighty, my car is now powering my fridge, freezer, modem/router (which happens to be a very power-hungry Starlink modem) and laptop.
I will leave this setup in place for 24 hours and will also use the car's power supply to cook meals during this time.
I want to know exactly how long the Vehicle to Load* function can realistically keep me going through a power outage. I predict close to a week, but soon I'll know for sure!
*This V2L function/adapter is unique to Hyundai/Kia E-GMP cars
