@igelsQTs When it's red it's larger and more threatening.
Dozens of Thai democracy activists targeted with Pegasus phone spyware
@inference @jeffcliff @MischievousTomato @Hyolobrika apple benchmarks
@MischievousTomato This is why one builds their own Kernel and goes through the tedious process of dealing with SE Linux. All of those explicit permissions and users who are allowed to access files are very important.
GNU/Linux isn't behind as much as it is divided. There are around four separate MACs that can be used. Beyond the MACs, there's IDS and the hardware security like a TPM. Make no mistake, Linux can be locked down tight. Nothing is truly secure and it's only a matter of time before it's broken.
The true reason why Linux and Mac are seen as more secure is because of their past. They both are Unix Like and Unix had to manage multiple users without dying immediately. Windows wasn't designed for this type of environment and it really became apparent.
Does all the above mean that Linux is better? Not really no. One should stick with what they know best. Apple and pricing make it difficult to say positive things.
Knowing the code one runs is important. A trusted codebase should be reviewed frequently. Even though the biggest problems can be difficult to find, there's no reason not to explore how something works.
It's a journey and not a boot camp. Just try to enjoy the ride and don't try to learn how to harden or trim a Kernel in a day. It's not going to happen.
@thendrix Idk why I thought that. It's crazy to think about games being made in assembly too.
@thendrix Wasn't that what Quake used?
@thendrix They probably just added stuff, CPU microcode patched and possible performance decline.
Time for a retired Xeon server to shine.
Mixed news on two old projects. One would just need traces cut and appropriate firmware.
The other project has a new volunteer that is older than the previous microcontroller. Older interface but a good performing controller. I think I could get some basic firmware built for it and flashed. I haven't checked out what communication protocol it uses but maybe it will function with open source.
That's progress.
@thor Java, the language of I'm having trouble finishing.
I haven't developed an application for Android since they swapped from Eclipse. It's not that Eclipse was friendly but it did have the sdk and NDK ready.
@PawelK Depending on how the power is distributed, the internet connections could be delivered through the power lines. It's one I usually forget, I never saw it used in the US.
Todays dive was amazing (videos and photos coming soon). There were atleast a dozen sharks of 3 different species, all within a meter or two, asea turtle, and best of all THREE seperate cuttle fish. One if the cuttle fish was about a meter away and let me video tape him for a good 10 minutes. There was also a stone fish which are clearly the uggliest fish in the sea. One of my best dives ive ever done I think.
@igelsQTs That's pretty cool.
Okay so I thought one project was going to be more difficult than it is. I'm already making progress on it. It's just going to require a few very close cuts to disable a troublesome feature. It should just disable that one thing. Physically removing it would be difficult but it can't be used without those connections.
That's disappointing but I should have expected as much.
It can be disabled and that's good enough for now!
@igelsQTs We have a big nation and cars have been associated with freedom. It's a way to get away from everything.
If one wanted to get deep about it, it was a metaphor about being closed minded to new experiences or fear of the unknown. He had the financial means to get a vehicle and go places but he chose not to. It's very much like his virginity.
We do love our vehicles and always have. Modifications are going to be standard on many vehicles. Fuel used to be inexpensive too so now one might as well just swap the gearing to lower rpms, turn up the boost and run more alcohol. It's not uncommon for such changes to increase fuel economy and performance.
@inference Ah that's not so bad.
@PawelK Yes because they only have to cause enough interference to make it unreachable. It might not be reaching the satellite but filling the air with interference in that frequency. It shouldn't travel very far because those links are very directional.
@inference It's not going to be painless but it should be a minor annoyance at most. That's the same vaccine they used at my old University. Take it easy today and tomorrow. You might have a headache or feel a little ill and that should be the worst of it.
How many shots do you have to take? Is it just the 2 shots?
