@darulharb
People have a first amendment right to freedom of speech. That includes in diners.

@aeveltstra
I live in a region where CenturyLink has its tendrils. CenturyLink is terrible. Speeds are never what they advertise, support is terrible, and it goes down frequently.
Be glad you're just learning about them, lol

@jz
To say whether I benefit or not is beside the point. When humans first started farming around Egypt thousands of years ago, it didn't improve people's quality of life. In fact, they ate smaller variety of food, suffered from malnutrition, and had far less leisure time. However, that society allowed for strong social stratification and accumulation of power, outcompeting surrounding tribes with their organization.

Whether a government is for the people or not is merely a function of the power they can accumulate collectively. As an individual, my thoughts don't matter alone.

@sentinel
Does this mean my sports car is going to nag me about speeding? Lol

@CaptMurica
He's working to prevent escalation during an incredibly tumultuous time. We're bordering on widespread violence.

@boud
Reports of ISP issues in USA with CenturyLink too.

@jz
Also I don't speak Spanish, I have no idea what your last sentence means.

@jz
You're assuming transparency and fairness are a goal in government. They aren't. China is doing fine without them.
In the geopolitical theater, the only things that matter are stability, smooth transitions of power, and leverage over your opponents.

@ChicagoScott
Yes, people have the right to defend themselves in the court of law. That's how this works.

@jz
If every country universally and completely made all their governments transparent at the same time, then sure, it's an option. But we need to behave in the bounds of reality. We live in a world where they aren't transparent, and a non-transparent government would be able to outcompete a transparent one. Hence why all governments are opaque to one extent or another.

@Phaedrus
Luckily due to MAD, the game theory is against any rational actor ever actually using nuclear weapons. Just the risk of escalation has dwindled conflict between superpowers down to nearly nothing, significantly reducing the risk of a World War.
On top of this, a massive number of safeguards have been put in place since and because of all those near-misses.
Humanity's capacity for global annihilation does make our extinction on this planet inevitable on a long enough timeframe, but I disagree that we are closer or as close to that than the first Cold War.

@lupyuen
Any responsiveness issues? I've been looking into getting a pinebook.
@PINE64

@jz
"Nobody hacks the government" is an idealized view of the world that doesn't exist. Government is not and cannot be perfectly transparent, otherwise competitors could apply game theory to damage and defeat them. Imagine if other countries knew our military strategy.

@Some_Emo_Chick
I acknowledge the past, but I'm also preparing for and shaping the future.

@Some_Emo_Chick
An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind... Sounds like you just want redemption instead of making the world a better place.

@jz
If you hack the government or push for someone to hack the government, don't be surprised if they try to arrest you.
