Data (fact). Gas keep on rising. ourworldindata.org/greenhouse-

Question.

Do you think about & make plans that result in fewer greenhouse gases being emitted? For example, having a in your own country, rather than abroad. Using the rather than the . Eating no or less .

@climatenews

When climate change dramatically affects the rich countries' food supplies (as it will), then folk, in general, will demand more action from politicians (but generally, folk will carry on regardless with their climate-changing lifestyles)

We could say that severe climate change is baked into the system (no pun intended)

Fake Plastic People News!

An elderly man from the Seaside town of Dystopiania has found some grains of sand amongst the plastic.

@breadandcircuses

If plastic pollution isn't, for example, covering many folk's neatly lawn-mowed gardens, they won't complain about it.

Generally, many people want to sing kumbaya around a campfire whilst deluding themselves that the campfire's smoke emissions aren't toxic.

However, for those that are aware that the is now inevitable (it is already happening - depending on location), The Post Carbon Institutes Crazy Town podcast is a more sane analysis of all things climate-related

Crazy Town: Episode 75. How to Lose Friends and Demoralize People: The (sic!) of Near-Term resilience.org/stories/2023-05.

The photograph is of some crazy-looking clever guy called Einstein, who apparently said "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

Of course, within the context of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, most people (of the world) aren't expecting different results - they're simply either being forced (e.g., gotta pay the rent) or choosing to take part in work and recreational activities that are emitting greenhouse gas emissions.

One thing is for sure, as usual is friggin crazy considering the consequences.

Please don't boost greenwash!

Question. Are the "enhanced" fertilizers made from fossil fuels? (it's what adverts ["news"] don't say that is often a "red flag" for greenwashing). Artificial fertilizers are not healthy for the environment.

Also, Tractors burn fossil fuels.
The photo shows mono-industrial farming methods that will never be sustainable (they're the problem - not any part of the solution).

is how to grow sustainably whilst also restoring health (fertility) - so that virtually zero natural (non-artificial) fertilizers are required to be added to the soil .agroecologyfund.org/what-is-ag

There are probably more deaf musicians around the world, but Evelyn was the first one devoted to reach out to the world at large and teach us how to truly listen - with all our body, with all our being.

Love her talks as much as her performances :ablobcatheart:

I think I will give the movie a miss as it will be a spoiler for when it actually happens in reality :)

I'm referring to the security flaw of trusting unknown parties with your data. For example, the "followers" list (that's currently baked into the system).

Unless you have your own Mastodon instance on your own local server.

I'm not saying everyone can or will want to manage their own Mastodon instance (with locally stored personal data). I'm saying that option can be coded so it's more accessible for the people that want to.

For example, a Mastodon light instance (for one owner \ user). The user-friendly way to configure a laptop to be a server (a server is a computer) running the Mastodon software (instance).

Just as not everyone wants, or has the time (due to other commitments), to learn computer coding. So, windows or Linux distributions have desktops that have been designed to be very user-friendly.

Some people will want that. Diversity is more sustainable.

@WillRobinson

Fundamentally, this shows the problems associated with having people that have become too rich (therefore socially influential \ powerful)

If everybody cycled as much as the Dutch, global carbon emissions would drop by nearly 700 million tonnes per year.

A study from the University of Southern Denmark - published by the Communications Earth and Environment journal - has urged people to saddle up like they do in the Netherlands.

Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6 kilometres each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, the study suggests, annual global carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes.

@climatenews

We have to be real and speak the truth (even if that's alarming)

"everybody" is not going to even try (much) to mitigate climate change. In fact, in many examples, quite the opposite.

Of course, this may be culture-specific. I live in the United Kingdom (I assume the psychology of people in Europe, the USA, China, etc are generally the same). The following is a normal response (behavior or attitude) from the "person on the street"

.Me "The data shows that greenhouse gases keep on rising, we have to try and live in ways that burn fewer fuels". ourworldindata.org/greenhouse-

The following is a summary of the average (most common) UK adult's response (after, quite often, apparently agreeing that, to paraphrase "something has to be done about it")

They then plan, for example, their holidays abroad on passenger planes, Crusie ships, you name it. In other words, even though they are aware that burning fuels is emitting greenhouse gas emissions - their priorities align with activities that are relatively emitting high amounts of greenhouse gases. You could say, for various reasons that they will not be truthful about, they don't care because they believe that climate change won't badly affect them personally (i.e., greed and selfishness)

Of course, some people do, for example, choose to take a holiday in the UK and use trains and bicycles. But, many adults are evidently not thinking of ways (activities), either work or recreation, that reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Of course, there is also the greenwashing from industries. For example, airline industries promote the disinformation that their Jet fuel is more "environmentally friendly" (All jet fuel will always be the opposite of "friendly" for ecology. It's pollution [period].

Therefore, what's it going to take to change their behaviors?

Incompetence as usual.

The data - atmospheric are rising ourworldindata.org/greenhouse-

The evidence - Industries and the people they sell products to are burning huge amounts of carbon-based fuels (e.g., diesel, petrol, gas, wood, etc). Their profit incentive is to sell their core products - not mitigate climate change. Consumers' incentives are to buy more products. Business incentives are to use greenwash to promote their products.

The corruption - The climate conferences are a sell-out

"The Cop28 president, Sultan Al Jaber, has been accused of attempting to “greenwash” his image after it emerged that members of his team had edited Wikipedia pages that highlighted his role as CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc)." theguardian.com/environment/20

The people - generally, live from day to day (not considering the long effects of their actions. e..g, the products they're consuming & using). Effectively, they are controlled by the corporate agenda.

The outcome, the future, is evident!

Hi,

What's the easiest way to backup the "followers" and "follows" addresses?

Rather than copying \ pasting each address individually into a database.

Or trusting a Mastodon instance with that data.
