Get on your Mastodon account. Search for the account (example: @Teri_Kanefield). When the search result shows up, click on it.

Image #1

Follow the account, if you don't already; this only works with followed accounts. Immediately to the right of the Follow/Unfollow button should be a bell like symbol. If you hover over the bell with your mouse cursor, you should get a text bubble that says "Notify me when @Teri_Kanefield posts". Click this bell ONCE.

Image #2

It will make a very subtle change in color on most instances, easy to miss. If you want to check if you did it right, hover over it a again (careful not to click) and you should get a text bubble that says "Stop notifying me when @Teri_Kanefield posts".

Image #3

Sadly, text bubbles are not captured in screen shots.

BTW, the fact that many major servers are completely banned from being shared on Twitter, being flagged as malware and disallowed if added to a bio, and even banned from being shared in DM's on #Twitter, should be a bigger story that it is.

Personally, I'm not clear if anything is going to function well until we've had enough global civil unrest, economic devastation, needless death, and abject misery to decide on the whole as a species, "Ok, ok... enough of this, we're done playing now."

@freemo

There is no life without struggle. I'd rather see Mastodon succeed as long as it takes for something obviously better to supplant it... IF IT EVER DOES. I suppose, as a guess, people are still using gopher: servers and USENET. They are certainly still using IRC. Did those actually "fail"? Would they have "failed" if nobody *was* currently using them?

They should have mummified the Queen and sent her to Egypt to be displayed in a museum

Ha!

I and one of my last replies about goes actually and 💯% positive response.

I don’t think Mastodon is “too complex”, that’s not the problem.

I think #Mastodon requires _intentionality_: people need to be very deliberate about their social media usage, the content the consume or publish etc. Before, on Twitter, it was largely superseded by algorithms.

This is very similar to "cutting the cord": transitioning from mindless pre-programmed TV consumption to deliberate streaming subscriptions. #twittermigration

In the past 24 hours, Ukrainians have been been blocked from signing up for Twitter using their phone numbers and using 2FA and accounts tracking Russian oligarchs' jets have been suspended.

What happens on Twitter can seem like a sideshow, but Elon Musk's actions are a direct threat to democracy.

New Reddit (r/UFoI) for doubters & supporters to meet, controlled by the critics. That's good actually.

@freemo

I don't want to leave a mistaken impression. We are not invited, an you have to apply to join, but even so, I am glad they decided to do this.

Oh, FFS. There are Mastodon admins trying to get the Raspberry Pi server on Fediblock?

That's some really pathetic thin-skinned bullshit.

On the other hand, maybe something like this will be the death knell for the centralized nature of Fediblock.
