@chancerydaily No, because you don't figure out Linux, you just keep banging your head against a wall until you suddenly know how to use it.
Mastodon is much more fun to learn.
MSCHF has filed a “Motion for Leave to File One Packet of Crayola® Colored Pencils” with the Supreme Court.
@jtlg Wow, that brief is *BONKERS*
US Mint today releases 'Freedom of the Press' $100 platinum coin. (At a cost of $1545 not too many reporters likely to be able to afford to buy one). https://catalog.usmint.gov/first-amendment-to-the-united-states-constitution-2023-platinum-proof-coin-freedom-of-the-press-23EJ.html
@Jeremycunnings @w7voa To be fair, it is about $1K worth of platinum, so the raw materials are closer to the purchase price than the face value.
@Teri_Kanefield Which is twice as funny when juxtaposed against Brandenburg v. Ohio discussions.
@empiricism Could it be that what you perceive as a "semantic" response addressing a "rather arbitrary point" is an example of them addressing the aspect of the post that was in *their* area of expertise or focus?
I wouldn't ever challenge a criminal defense lawyer on criminal law, but I've been studying federal free speech jurisprudence for years, so if they made a claim about criminal law that had a false tangent about speech law, I may be inclined to opine.
@auldlangsin The fact that it's headed up by different creatives working under corporate overlords is what has me most skeptical. I'm not getting my hopes up...
Twitter: "Hi, we're run by a cryptofascist who reinstates the accounts of literal nazis while suspending those of press. We'll keep randomly taking away features with no notice and limiting your visibility until you pay us a monthly fee, which you can only do in a handful of countries. Vaccines are bad, the election was rigged, and we love Putin!"
Mastodon: "Hi! You need to choose a server and our DM UX is a little iffy."
Users: "NEVER BEFORE HAVE I FACED A CHOICE THIS HARD"
@freemo Pretty sure the US banned small business a few years back, lol.
@freemo Maybe for the government. But I'd bet anything the pharmacy database is (inter)national depending on how big the company is.
@freemo I don't know how long it's been since you tried that last one, but I don't think it applies anymore. The prescriptions here are all tracked by computer, so if you need a prescription for it, you're already being tracked whether you pay in cash or not.
Re: Gonzalez v. Google, there are alot of news articles this morning focused on how the Justices were "confused." Just want to jump in and say judges also use that phrase to say other things, such as: (1) "I'm annoyed at you" or (2) "I don't buy your argument." I have been on the other side of this phrase before.
There were cringeworthy moments yesterday (like screenshot v. thumbnail), but when you listen to the audio, it's not as simple as they don't understand what's going on. #LawFedi
@ThinkingSapien Correct, and that anti-LGBTQ obsession is the basis of Ron DeSantis's upcoming presidential bid.
He's openly courting bigots for votes because that's where America and the GOP are right now.
@jmiers230 I'm much less familiar with that one than Gonzalez. Have you written a primer on Taamneh?
@emkingma @jeffjarvis ^This. I'm not scared of AI. I'm scared of who gets to wield it.
Can someone please page Ron Wyden to come into this #SCOTUS hearing?
Is it just me, or is the defense in this #Section230 case totally botching the hell out of it?
What the hell was that "sex and violence on TV" example?!?
