So the big silicon valley bank went bust and apparently that means all its clients will only get up to 250K of their cash back and the rest is just gone?

Umm... is there a way to make this suddenly happen with all banks? Asking for a friend.

Say what you will about , but at least its basic text editor doesn't need a user manual.

Sometimes I think loving computer science folks only love the OS because it makes the screen scroll with gibberish which makes them feel like they're living in 80s hacker movies.

AWS is a nightmare. Why would any small business choose to use this ridiculous monstrosity?

@SmartmanApps Well, what do you mean by "all your data"? Because if it was work product, then the company actually does own that, usually, per the terms of the employment agreement.

@highvizghilliesuit It's the same as quote tweeting on Twitter, where you can embed another toot while adding your own commentary. It's like a combination of boosting and replying.

I can write a dynamic dialogue engine without breaking a sweat, and yet finding the motivation to write two sentences of dialogue to put in it is almost impossible. Why, brain, why?

@TimHarford You're giving the algorithms way too much agency here. They're pattern matchers, not bullshit artists.

@styx31 Your server is officially my default backup should I ever become dissatisfied with the server I'm on.

Thanks for doing what you're doing.

Warning to other non-sports people: Do not buy gifts for sports people from Fanatics. They will sell your data and you will get sports ads forever and they will never stop.

@drewharwell How is that "new"? Advertisers have been doing it for years.

@brad_frost "Find your niche". Too many people get stuck in a rut thinking its their niche.

@jupiter_rowland Sure, but now every point you just made has been reversed.
There are lots of .NET developers on Masto now.
Microsoft has proved themselves to be much more developer friendly than any of those other examples.
Steve Ballmer's been out for almost a *decade* now.
C# and .NET are fully cross-compatible now.
GitHub is beloved by developers of all OSes and is a beacon of Microsoft's commitment to open source.

I agree Microsoft's not always been the good guy. But they've been doing the right thing for a good long while now, and they deserve the little bit of trust that's bought them.

@highvizghilliesuit @timelordiroh @atomicpoet @pixelfed You mean, could a company do to Mastodon what Google did to email?

Yes, it's possible. But private email servers/masto instances will still exist.

@atomicpoet If you want to continue this conversation, try replying to what I actually wrote instead of this nonsense argument you imagined me saying.
