Fun fact: If you don't fear Thor, then the best time to clean out your gutters is during a downpour.

"Never fear, my friends, for we have the dough! I promise you, here and now, that every pig lacking a blanket will- be- made- ...delicious!!"

*thund'rous applause*

@JSharp1436 He's got too much baggage. The entire world has been watching California literally burn under his watch.

@marynelson8 The problem is, "STOP" only works if they're legitimate. If they are legitimate, you can just block the number. But if they're not legitimate, then you've just confirmed you're a real human at a real number to a scammer and you get far more spam as a result.

As you noted, the fact that they can spoof their number means conventional blocking doesn't really work either.

However... Most cell providers offer a service to report these kinds of texts. In my case (AT&T), I can forward them to 7726. The more people who do this, the quicker those companies can identify the source of the spam and cut it off (these texts annoy their customers and cost them money; they want them gone too!).

Every person needs to ask themselves every day:

Do I enrich the lives of those around me? Or do I enrich myself at the expense of those around me?

At its core, this is what separates good from evil.

@tehuti88 It's also how every single liberal in the room reacted while watching the debate where I was.

The news may actually just be reporting instead of driving coverage on this one.

@terryenglish The problem is that melted brain prevents one from effectively getting out the vote. Being dumb doesn't.

@tristansnell That's ridiculous.

"Anyone who calls for putting out this fire, but has not called the sky blue, is a traitor to America."

@Nazani @jeffjarvis How many people will see those vs how many saw the debate?

@spocko Young software developers look at software, and absolutely say "If *I* wrote this I would never do that!"

Experienced software developers look at software and say "I bet there was a complex dependency chain of related tech debt that necessitated this odd choice."

I taught civics a long time ago. I used to tell students, "a vote isn't a valentine". But also: A VOTE ISN'T A REVIEW. Protest votes or (lack of votes) won't punish or reward any politician (and it certainly won't "send a message"), but it could make life really terrible for you, or for someone you love. Vote with your brain and your heart. #uspol

The number of people who were already absolutely committed to voting for Biden saying we have to stick with him after last night is tiresome already.

How did Biden beat the incumbent last time? Turnout. People were terrified after 4 years of crazy and a million Covid dead.

What is Biden not going to get this November after being so dull and uninspiring? After inflation. After a much more coherent Trump campaign. After people have forgotten? After young people and Israel? Turnout.

@jynersolives @grrrr_shark The problem is that, for the past few decades at least, the dollar has been more influential to our politicians than the vote.

Once you see that, everything else starts to make a lot more sense (at least from a cause-and-effect standpoint).

Soooo many people are posting along the lines of "Why isn't anyone calling for to drop out?" My feed is full of this sentiment over and over.

And, like, do you people even understand what year it is?

The man led an insurrection.

Calling for to drop out is appealing to his sense of duty and responsibility to the collective. Trump doesn't even know what those words mean.

"Why isn't anyone calling for the convicted felon to drop out?" isn't pithy or original. It's just naive and sad.

@professorhank@sfba.social No, but you do hire a younger butler who can handle his duties.

@nazokiyoubinbou The non-straw-man version of that first argument is "The man can't string two sentences together coherently. How's he going to get out the vote?"

We're not worried about our own votes or the administration if he wins... we're worried that his abysmal performance will lead to a predictable loss to a far greater danger.

@66gardeners @TonyStark @Acronymesis It's demonstrably not binary, though. People have a third choice: to stay home. That's why we need a strong candidate. If he can't get out the vote in the middle, and Trump can, we lose. Period.

@Jespertheend @slightlyoff Yesss, I like this. 5 seconds for every MB of text/script content past the first MB. Make oversized images load like a JPEG on dial-up. If a scroll-based signup dialog appears, make scrolling stuttery AF for a few seconds.

NC today only reached the already faithful voters. Last night reached the whole world. The weakness displayed last night is what the majority of voters saw. Don’t get me wrong - I’m voting democratic, but I personally know many who won’t vote for Biden or Trump. They can’t fathom either choice. They will however vote for a different democratic candidate if they are given that option. From where I’m standing, Biden gave the presidency to Trump last night. And that’s terrifying. #Election #Debate
