@wiseguyeddie @heidilifeldman That's the cost of having a pluralistic party instead of a cult.
@heidilifeldman Yep, and blaming the media for reporting on what many Democrats are genuinely concerned about is also a very Trumpian tactic that we need to avoid adopting.
Friends, it is important to know that millions of rank and file Democrats are concerned about Biden’s health and/or his ability to beat Trump. Accusing them of wanting a Trump victory is neither accurate nor honest. We have to be the party where people can freely express concerns about Biden — otherwise, we risk degenerating into the current Republican situation, where all dissent has been quashed. 1/
@schmubba @clane22 @JasonPerseus @i_understand FFS, I'm a registered democrat. I'm voting for whoever's on the ticket, even if it's a moldy cheese sandwich.
I'm not who we need to worry about. It's the detached folks in the middle of the country who are inundated with news about how old and infirm Joe is and how Trump is going to save their jobs from immigrants. When they get a chance to see for themselves at the debate, Joe confirms every one of their worst fears.
Those are the voters you need to worry about.
@joeinwynnewood @ThisAccountKillsFascists @DebErupts The whole "our candidate is unpopular because of an evil media conspiracy" schtick was old even back when Trump and his supporters were using it.
For your consideration: the "Master of Puppets" swing cover you've been looking for

@interfluidity @Geoffberner The diehard stance is totally understandable. No matter what's happening behind closed doors, the message will always be a unified "I'm never quitting" right up until the very moment he quits. To do otherwise would be unthinkable.
@interfluidity @Geoffberner That the policy changes with the coalition doesn't mean we can't still pursue the long-term goals cohesively. Most internal regime changes only shift a few issues and aren't major upheavals of the platform (R2016, obviously, being the exception to that rule).
But either way, the detriment to long-term policy from a dem regime change is dwarfed by the catastrophe of an electoral loss, and the Biden team just doesn't really seem to get that, as much lip service as they pay to it.
@LilHulkQ How many of those "CEO Trump donors" are really "CEO donates to both parties"?
@SecurityWriter Right there with you. It felt so incredibly paint-by-numbers. None of the characters felt real. Their entire existence was blatantly built around delivering quests to a main character. The entire "city" was pathetically bland and boring. The story was unmemorable, other than the truly bizarre points where it broke the fourth wall with crossover content.
I also just couldn't stand the main character's voice actor; it totally broke immersion, nullifying much of the character creator. They'd have been better off with a silent protagonist.
@interfluidity @Geoffberner Good policy can have a long lead time, I agree.
But that's exactly why it needs to rest on the shoulders of the party as a whole instead of a single temporary-by-definition presidential administration.
Biden's (and, more specifically, his campaign staff's) primary job is to keep his party's administrators in place long enough to carry out the party's policy, by getting (re)elected.
If he and his team can't do that, as it's increasingly seeming like they can't, then the party needs to swap them out.
@shuttersparks Yup.
@interfluidity @Geoffberner If they were really sure they were doing such a great job, they wouldn't need to worry about being replaced.
@codeDude VLC is the only one I have a smoking gun for. I only recently learned how to ctrl-alt-F3 to check top to determine the culprit. In the past I just hard-rebooted to fix the laggy OS.
I suspect Steam and qBittorrent may have also caused similar issues, though I have no evidence yet.
@codeDude I don't know. I just made the switch to Linux a month or so ago, so F40 is the first for me.

> Where can I find coverage and discussion of the #election2024 #election that isn't hysterical?
Nowhere.
> Is #Biden really likely to step aside (how could that be after primaries?)
He says "absolutely not", but he has to say that until the moment he steps aside. Three elected members of his own party have called for him to do so. It becomes more likely by the day, but it's still far from a certainty.
> How is his age stuff worse than the orange guys insanity and lies?
It's not. The issue isn't whether or not he's better than Trump. The issue is whether or not he can energize the people in the middle to come out and vote for him to beat Trump. The poles in America are pretty much set in stone. This election (like most) is about capturing the centrists. And Biden's age and frailty are seriously hurting him in that area.
> Is the media going to convince everyone that Joe is senile?
The media doesn't have to. He convinced plenty of us himself during his disastrous debate performance.
@WideEyedCurious It's also because Biden is trying not to be awful.
But when the media calls Trump awful, he *leans into it* and uses it to rally his supporters.
Where calls to drop out cause Biden's support to wane, calls for Trump to drop out would simply galvanize his base.
I don't understand how more people don't see this very simple dynamic.
