@jeffjarvis I reached a similar conclusion a couple years ago. The dude has some great ideas and is a very skillful debater, but he just has a problem with regularly going way over the line.

Any party that is above criticism is already lost. (Which seems to be exactly where we're headed, btw.)

There are legitimately some instances that block the instance I'm on because we don't block the same instances they do.

@joannejacobs Hate speech is not an exception in the United States. It is fully protected by the first amendment.

Incitement is an exception, but it's very narrowly defined and difficult to prove. Generally, a call for violence on social media would not meet that standard, though there are absolutely limited circumstances under which it might.

It goes without saying that political violence is reprehensible, and it is therefore good that today's example of it was unsuccessful.

But in addition to that, I'm not sure this country could handle Trump as a martyr. Any attempt of violence against him, successful or not, only strengthens his cause.

He and his ideology *must* be defeated peacefully.

But one very important one does, and most of those Republicans who don't want fascism are still very much considering voting for the guy who has openly embraced fascism, so....

(and I'm from the midwest, my family is there; I'm not an outsider to this culture either)
