@deweyritten Yeah, because every productive debate starts with "fuck you, you pretentious sack of shit" 🙄
I'm good with sidestepping that toxicity. Have a nice day.
@deweyritten Fuck that. Low turnout benefits Republicans and 3rd party votes are functionally equivalent to low turnout.
If you're a liberal and you vote 3rd party, you're betraying your own principles.
Government is won in shitty increments, not in futile gestures.
@ThinkingSapien A company literally sued me over a bad Amazon review.
Yeah, they really are.
@jeffjarvis I reached a similar conclusion a couple years ago. The dude has some great ideas and is a very skillful debater, but he just has a problem with regularly going way over the line.
@annmlipton Probably nothing more than the winning combo of standard full-drive encryption and a strong password chosen by the user.
@Colarusso Or at least keep an eye out for it going on sale.
@scotttiger @JasonPerseus There's a big difference between "criticizing" and "attacking".
Any party that is above criticism is already lost. (Which seems to be exactly where we're headed, btw.)
Where I'm at:
I cannot believe we are fielding an 81 year old who can barely speak in complete sentences against the greatest fascist threat our country has ever faced in modern times.
I.
Cannot.
Fucking.
Believe.
It.
I fucking hate the Democratic Party for this.
I'll vote against Trump if I have to step across burning coals, but I wish I was voting for something instead of a fucking 81 year old bandaid that keeps falling off every other hour.
@darwinwoodka @interfluidity That may have been the closest I ever got to doing a legit double-take on social media. WTF...
@MikeImBack Right... but not until after November.
@RebelGeek99 @pmonks Count your blessings. Despite how I voted, my Senator is Rick fucking Scott.
@RebelGeek99 @pmonks Offering a commitment to democracy that doesn't exist among the opposition isn't enough?
@D_J_Nathanson I'm pretty sure the only reason is because, when you use them together, the green and yellow are really visually appealing. Especially, like, alternating on a skewer.
If it weren't for that, summer squash would be extinct by now.
@schrotthaufen @blogdiva Yup. One big branch of it anyway. The whole fediblock list is just endless drama.
@schrotthaufen @blogdiva Oh, the fediverse is *wild* like that.
There are legitimately some instances that block the instance I'm on because we don't block the same instances they do.
@joannejacobs Hate speech is not an exception in the United States. It is fully protected by the first amendment.
Incitement is an exception, but it's very narrowly defined and difficult to prove. Generally, a call for violence on social media would not meet that standard, though there are absolutely limited circumstances under which it might.
It goes without saying that political violence is reprehensible, and it is therefore good that today's example of it was unsuccessful.
But in addition to that, I'm not sure this country could handle Trump as a martyr. Any attempt of violence against him, successful or not, only strengthens his cause.
He and his ideology *must* be defeated peacefully.
@RandomAnt Yeah, most Republicans don't want that, I totally agree.
But one very important one does, and most of those Republicans who don't want fascism are still very much considering voting for the guy who has openly embraced fascism, so....
