The fact that "College Admissions Essay Consultant" is a real job that pays real money is a real indictment of our higher education system.

Students who’ve used AI to help write their school applications are now hiring people en masse to un-ChatGPT their essays and make them sound human...

The experience tiers of :

Tier 0: never tried

Tier 1: tried programming, realized it was hard

Tier 2: kept trying programming after realizing it was hard

Tier 3: experienced enough to identify and properly build basic structures

Tier 4: experienced enough to identify and properly build large structures and systems

Tier 5: experienced enough to know when *not* to build large structures and systems

Tier 6: too jaded to be useful anymore; probably a gardener or pilot or something now

I'm using my CPA's tax software where they ask me to upload my tax documents, like 1099s and such.

They accept XLSX format, but not JPG. 🤦‍♂️

Holy shit, maybe the term "MAGAt" is more legitimate than I previously thought.

Ouch. Somebody's going to get a Streisand Effect wake-up call.

I'm finally getting to the point where feels like home and feels like the old bad place.

When I use Unity now (pretty much only for contract work), I'm starting to feel the absence of key Godot features, most notably the ability to edit multiple prefabs/scenes at once in separate tabs.

Maybe we should require a crayon coloring test as part of our driver's license road tests. Can't stay in the lines? Don't get behind the wheel.

Framed this way, I feel like any team that has had layoffs needs to be very deliberate about not performing heroics to keep things running. Let things fail if they require going above and beyond. Otherwise the floor will be raised and it will no longer be “above and beyond”, just the expectations of your job. https://chaos.social/@mrtazz/111844063360502168

There was some really cool last night just after sunset. The most surreal part was that it caused no . Here's a compilation of some of the cooler strikes I was able to capture with my shitty phone camera:

Ugh, my dog just bit the tail off of a duck while trying to play with her.

Good news is that the duck is now safely with my neighbor who looks after local fowl.

In hindsight, maybe we shouldn't be accepting shitty phone photos as legitimate proof when they cancel out all of the security features we've spent millions developing for our IDs.

I wuz robbed.

More specifically, I was tricked by a phone-phisher pretending to be from my bank, and he convinced me to hand over my credit-card number, then did $8,000+ worth of fraud with it before I figured out what happened. And *then* he tried to do it again, a week later!

, specifically , is an incredible tool for upgrading code.

I fixed an architecture problem that resulted in over 700 warnings related to nullability in C#. I was able to clear all of those warnings properly with the help of AI in just a couple hours. Now my code base is far more robust and better at handling errors elegantly.

Shockingly, when you use a glorified pattern-matching algorithm to deal with a pattern-matching problem, you get good results. Who knew?

Damn. Literally just finished watching Happy Gilmore.

Estimates by the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption ‘put electricity supporting Bitcoin mining in 2023 at about 0.2% to 0.9% of global demand for electricity.
