As we contemplate the coming heat dome (which some of you already are/have experienced) - here is my annual reminder to hose out your AC compressor. Ours was wearing a serious "fur" coat on the coils, in spite of having cleaned it twice last year...#heatwave #homecare #airconditioning

A friend worked in printer/plotter service for a long time. He picked up 3D printing, 3D design, and Photoshop stuff as a hobby. He made the designs for these lightsabers for himself, printed them, painted them - There's no metal in this picture.
He's at loose ends, mid-life, and wants to change careers. Big Time movie buff. I would love to get him in touch with some people in special effects/film and make magic happen. #movies #film #design #GetFediHired
I really shouldn't have to point this out, but I do:
Anyone who says "I refuse to vote for Biden" is saying "it's okay with me if my tax dollars are used to prosecute and imprison innocent journalists, just because they correctly reported the outcome of the 2020 election."
They should be treated as though they said that, because they did.
Fediverse hive mind, please help!
I'm so close to successfully transitioning from #Windows to #Linux, but the one thing holding me back is a working IDE for C#.
#VisualStudio apparently doesn't exist for Linux.
#VSCode does, but it doesn't have multi-monitor support and won't let me use ctrl-click for selection.
#JetBrains #Rider seems to work well, except for the endless lag while typing (sometimes taking 30+ seconds to register each keystroke).
Is there an alternative that works well? I'm on #Fedora 40 currently.
Commercial artists today remind me of travel agents in the early 2000s. You used to have to talk to human on the phone or in-person to book trips. They were knowledgeable about destinations and rates. Today you Google and use Expedia.
Generative AI is going to do the same to art.
A key difference is that travel agents weren’t on social media talking about how technology had stolen their jobs. It did and no one wants to go back to the old ways for booking a trip or getting custom art made.
This is *terrible.* Stanford buckles under to Jim Jordan & litigation, dismantling the Stanford Internet Observatory (retreating to safe subjects like child porn). Alex Stamos & Renee DiResta, both gone, call this "a quintessential example of the weaponization of government." h/t Casey Newton

Love to see this. You defraud the government to steal tax money from all of us? You pay it back 5 times over.
Now if only we could make these rules apply to the billionaires too.
Iowa police chief uses town money to purchase 90 machine guns for his department of two (2) officers. Then he sells them through his gun store at an 800% markup and pockets the profits.
I will never understand Linux's exclusion from MAUI. It takes what could be a cool project and just makes it useless. Why have a multi-platform UI and not support the main platforms?

Book bans were never about "protecting the kids," but censoring what the right disagrees with. And they've shown their true colors by banning, without apparent irony, a book about book bans.
No sex, no homosexuality, not even an attempt to sneak in a lesson about slavery, just censoring a book that illuminates their censorship efforts.
Christian nationalists are headed towards China-level oppression.
