@andylu I like that quote:) My to do list is around six years long but I could probably try and fit some things in around the edges maybe 😂
@andylu I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome which made me initially interested in designing better braces for myself and people like me. Then a close friend of mine told me she was potentially facing an arm amputation so I started to look into what I could feasably do for her. I fell in love with the whole field of biomedical engineering (it didn't EXIST when I was at school!) and I decided I was going to get my masters so that I could keep my friend in replacement arms and help as many people with disabilities as I possibly can.
I wanted to be an artist when I was a child though I had to switch to digital art when I lost the fine motor control in my hands because of the EDS. I now enjoy digital art, though it takes forever to do.
If I feel brave, I'll take you up on your kind offer of the programming. I have a list a mile long though of things I have to get done first. I'm honestly a bit scared of my to do list😱
@andylu I'm glad you enjoyed the article. I could probably have a bit of a grump about it myself given half a chance (and did earlier with my husband😂 ) It is my main area of study after all, though I want to design the prostheses and medical appliances rather than code. I can't seem to get my head around programming, that's more my husbands area, though not for want of him attempting to get me to try.
@andylu I don't know if this sort of thing would interest you, but I was talking to my husband about security for prosthetic limbs and implants earlier following on from this article. I noticed your minors were Natural Sciences which is exceptionally cool 🙂 I don't know how many people are entering the field, but I am betting not nearly enough if they don't even have security enough to prevent a pacemaker being hacked after being told in advance about it.
Is anyone else here learning how to paint with #BobRoss? I've watched about 50 Joy of Paintings, and I've done three (bad) paintings of my own.
I'm slowly getting better at some things, but I'm still mostly incompetent, and I'm wondering if anyone else is learning, and has experiences or tips to share that have helped your learning curve?
@wilw Yes, have silly contests with your friends where someone comes up with a theme. Usually the funnier, the better. Put a short time limit on it so you don't take yourself too seriously. That way you learn to be economical with brush strokes and relax. You also tend to have a lot of fun with it because you are playing with your friends. Having thirty minutes to paint a Dachshund Mona Lisa, potentially after a homebrew tasting session, will open your eyes to a whole new joy of painting. Trust me 🙂
@andylu What do you want to do for a job? I enjoyed working back in the day. I used to work night shifts with big presses. I didn't have to deal with managers (top tip - middle management don't tend to work nights in factories❤️ ) and I had full autonomy. I could sit with a book and someone would come get me when something broke on one of their machines. I was a sheet metal worker and cable assembler for a while as well which gave me plenty of opportunity to develop a lot of useful practical skills.
@andylu What was the dread beastie you were faced with having to slay? 😂
@Jay7667 Hello Jay 🙂 It's nice to meet you!
Hello Everyone,
This is my first toot. Doctor of Computer Science with a background in data science and cybersecurity. Look forward to meeting everyone in the community. 🇺🇸
#introduction / #introductions.
@andylu I'm procrastinating. I am supposed to be learning PTC Creo but I am finding my mind wandering all over the place. I don't mind admitting I find it a little bit intimidating. When I first learned design, it was all done on paper. Times have changed a LOT! 😭
This is the best academic paper! XD

I had to say this on the birdsite every few months, and I guess I have to say it here, too: I am not your trained monkey. You are not entitled to my time, my comments on whatever you want me to comment on, or my attention. If you can't respect that, I'm going to block you.
Thanks for listening.
#introduction I am a mathematician and cognitive scientist by training and troublemaker by inclination. I have been following the mastodon universe from the sidelines for a while now but a recent article (and facebook's tanking stock!) made me create an account here.
As a complete n00b, I am at your mercy. Tell me what I should know and who I should follow!
@andylu Oh I did that too. It moved so fast I couldn't keep up. I'm really glad Commandelicious told me about this one. It suits my interests a lot better and I don't need to be able to speed read 😁
I'm surely forgetting many more, but I'd also say, if you are looking for cool science leaning persons, @InvaderXan @spinflip , @freemo , @pwgallagher, @imvectech, @dereklh
As instances, I enjoy and respect a lot the people from sunbeam.city, mastodon.art, qoto.org, social.coop and refactorcamp.org, between others.
