I wasn't aware of those stats. Yes, mutations are probably the main factor.
Anecdotally, I'm kind of old and I haven't had a cold in at least two decades.
> "Healthy people get sick from cold viruses all the time."
Old people who are healthy don't get colds as often as young people because their immune system has already seen most of the cold viruses, and although the antibodies wane with time for some of the cold viruses, there is still more immunity than with young people who have never got those viruses.
Biden especially, as a gregarious politician, has certain been exposed to all or nearly all of the cold viruses multiple times, so the fact that he got sick from a very young person (who was most likely infected with a common species of cold virus) means he is not so healthy.
So he should be taking extra precautions with regard to COVID-19.
And the fact that he got so sick from a simple cold virus means that his immune system isn't working too well.
It's not he got a cold, or that he should have worn it to prevent the cold, it's that it could have very well been the COVID-19 virus instead of a cold virus.
The Secret Service is putting POTUS at risk by not making him wear a respirator.
#TruthBeTold isn't supposed to make sense, that's the point. (or sometimes they make sense when they sound like they shouldn't)
I keep hearing people talk about natural immunity and cite studies, but the studies exclude people who get COVID-19 and don't recover, they only count the people who recover, so the results are biased toward those who had a healthy-enough immune system to fight it off in the first place.
The point is to let all those folks out there who think that getting COVID-19 is good for their immune system, to think about what they are risking.

If President Biden had worn a respirator instead of a cloth mask, he would not have caught bad cold from his grandson.
Where is the Secret Service????
Yeah, your right! I guess this is one of the #TruthBeTold that is only partly true.
COVID-19 Natural Immunity
The truth is...
If you become infected with the COVID-19 virus and don't recover, you are 11 times less likely to become reinfected.

#TruthBeTold = A statement that is logically or literally true (or partly true), but seems to imply something that isn’t true or is just plain weird. (for rhetoric, logic or propaganda studies… or just for fun)

That's one of reasons why the word "woke" is used, to reflect the fact that many times people are not being biased out malice, but out of ignorance or insensitivity.
It's ironic that many of those who claim to be woke will jump on any misstep and go straight to "cancel" without even considering that the offender may be unaware of their faux pas.

> "Yea the left convinces themselves thry are doing it out of love and kindness sonehow...."
That's known as the "white savior". (Panel L3 in the graphic) The implication is that the relationship is asymmetrical. A textbook example from Hollywood is The Blind Side with Quinton Aaron and Sandra Bullock. (A film with a lot of other racial issues besides the overall white savior bias.)
Also, don't trust the news source that you get a particular report from. Go track down the original published papers on the studies that were written by the scientists themselves, then analyse them carefully, read what other scientists have said about them, and read about other similar studies and experiments.
Then maybe you will have more "trust" in science.
I've found that racism on the left is also biased against people of color, but they just aren't as open about it, even to themselves.
For example, all those Hollywood liberals (progressives) who chastise racism but then turn around and produce horribly racist films -- 8 of 10 films coming out of Hollywood are racially biased. And most of them feature those same "progressive" actors, directors and producers.
> "Trust science but not necessarily the scientists then..."
Exactly! That's why we have peer review and the experiments are repeated by others to verify their validity.
"Trust" has multiple meanings. When used in the sense of relying on science, it means, "to place an assured reliance on the ability or truth of something".
When used about people it could also mean "to hope", or "to accept on faith".
"Trust the science" means that the scientific method can be relied upon for certainty. (The method is certain, not necessarily its execution.)
Based on my experience this is typical (if memory serves me).
Here's a link to the thread (which I responded to).
I'm just a geek.
Pronouns: She/Him/Her/His
(Use "she" for the subjective case, "him" for the objective case, "her" for the active possessive case, and "his" for the passive possessive case. Note: This is to avoid non-PC objectification and passivity.)
