@freemo

Have you heard anything about Norton Chrome Extension calling qoto.org a "very dangerous website"? I sent an invite to someone and it blocked her. She used another browser and it's fine. Weird...

@mathlover @Romaq

This happened to a few instances in the past.. what happens is a trojan-net bot signs up for an account here and makes either a post or in theri description posts an IP address, that ip address is the control address for the net. The result is that when this happens we get put on malware lists... happened to qoto once and we had to scour EVERY user till we found it and delete the user.. happened to a dozen other instances too.

How recent was this, can you link me to any sources so i can start looking for this.

@freemo I'll DM the invite link. Issued just within the last hour or so.

@freemo Actually, are my invite links visible to you? It's the latest one generated.

@Romaq the invite link isnt the issue.. the issue is the service which is issuing the malware warning that your friend is seeing.

@freemo @mathlover @Romaq I have had my Nord threat protection go off and block qoto too. Said it was malicious and had to allow it to load in the settings.

@jellycrystals jesus christ these services need to fix their shit instead of making me look through 20,000 users for an ip address in an description... funny they dont seem to block twitter when this happens.

@freemo Not sure if it is or but life is sometimes hard on my mobile too... Flagged as malware again.

@Romaq @freemo

I think your problem is using Norton products in the first place...

@deadbeef @freemo

While I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you I note the following:

1) It isn't my PC or my Norton. I'm not using it. The friend considering joining is.

2) Before I tell anyone I'm trying to help to "switch brands of PC protection," I'd want to exhaust all other possibilities. I'm not selling Anti-malware, I'm trying to help someone.

3) In this particular instance, it isn't Norton, it's other issues being currently discussed in the thread.

Hey @khird if you have the time helping me track this down would be hugely helpful.
I can explain how i fixed it the last time but im having some deadends this time.

@Romaq @deadbeef

@freemo I've been working on that today. I ran some scans, but nobody has a raw IPv4 address in their profile, that I can find with a regex at least. I suspect it's obfuscated in some way.

@freemo if it's an actual URL and not an IPv4 address, there's a good chance I'll catch it this week when I tackle the SEO linkstuffers

@khird that would be great... problem is we have to know who it actually is so we can report to the blacklists for review... ideall we need to find what database is listing us and why...

In the past we showed up here, which showed us the user at fault:

tria.ge/220106-dgc7asahg3

I cant find whatt database we are in now... this service didnt seem to help:

securityscan.getastra.com/secu

Perhaps you can use the above link and email tthem? I ttried but the national firewall here blocks them ironically enough.

@freemo @khird no but you'll avoid dying while you clear the inbox.

@icedquinn

New users arent what is causing my stress sadly, so it would do little to help.

@khird

@freemo I'll see what I can dig up. It's getting on toward night here, so probably going to tackle this in the morning.

@khird ok no rush, would like your input ont he phrase im considering adding to our ToC if you hav ea minute befor eyou go.. id like to get it in quickly.

@freemo generally okay. I'd cut the bit about anti-cisgender/anti-straight, because that's going to be a lightning rod - the people who are already looking for an excuse to block will cry foul because you're "punching down" against marginalised groups, and the free speech ideologues will complain about you declaring *anything* off limits, so the less expansive this section, the better.

I strongly approve the change to academic freedom rather than free speech, given the current trend for a free speech to degenerate into 4chan

@khird perhaps ther eis a better middle ground.. something that is inclusive of both sides but doesnt explicittly say so....

@deadbeef That's cool. Anything said it text normally comes out far harsher than intended. Right now I'm sitting on Kaspersky wishing I didn't have years of pre-paid to go, but I'm not clear on what I'd switch *TO*. All of them seem to offer something to passionately hate.

@Romaq Yeah. And unfortunately, but also understandably, open-source tends to be somewhat lacking in the antimalware department. So that really only leaves proprietary, which all have their own issues.
