@RedSV Last time I voted Party was Bob Dole vs. Bill Clinton. I voted Republican because, "It's the end of the world if the Democrats win!" They did, it wasn't. I hated Bob Dole and Stephen Ran-for-Mayor-Wannabe-Governor Goldsmith. I felt dirty, a shower couldn't take the stain off my soul. Same song, different dance partner with Democrats "End of the world vote blue." I absolutely refused to feel like I did in 1996 again.

I didn't. I'm so at the bottom of this whole mess.

Voted. Straight Democrat. GQP was *NOT* an option. I'm way too pissed off with Libertarians being a political branch of QAnon, and frankly I'm way too pissed off with how voting is managed altogether. I loathe and despise Democrats, but I just have to learn to lower my standards.

I follow @BrynnTannehill on Twitter. I find her information relevant to me and useful. Her analysis on twitter.com/BrynnTannehill/sta is grim for Russia, which of course RU is waiting more for victory within the US rather than hoping for it in Ukraine. Reminds me... I need to fill out the ballot now instead of fussing here.

@JRRM Thank you. I'm totally new to this, and I'm just hoping to find a ready group of friends for my house-bound wife to connect with, particularly during the long dark hours of winter. I'll see what she wishes to try. I'm all about giving her wings to do what she wants as opposed to throwing her over the balcony expecting her to fly. :)

@Charadon No SpigotMC resources (plugins) with "Mastodon" in the title, so that doesn't appear to be a thing, yet. I'm not even clear what it'd do, but it was fun to ponder. :)

@Charadon Cool, thank you! I run a private server for my wife and I, a few friends. It's cool to learn of new servers and what people are doing. NOW I have to wonder if there are links between Spigot Server plugins and Mastodon. Hrm...

Explained #Mastodon to my kid and he said that it sounded like how #Minecraft servers work. And we have definitely run our own servers for friends, etc. Only difference is that Minecraft servers can't talk to each other and the software is proprietary. And Mastodon looks like a single pane of glass with all the different servers behind it. In, Minecraft you are very aware when you're on a different server. With Mastodon, you don't really notice too much outside of the group of folks who you normally see toots from. We'll, that's a **lot* of differences. 😄

As the admin of a #minecraft server I spend more time managing everything than actually playing. But last season I did make this cute little island 😅

I'll be sharing more screenshots of builds from the blackblock.rocks server via our mascot account, @blake

Now I have moved over time to do a new #introduction post!

Hello everyone, I'm Zachary. I've been an #Android developer since 2009 (long live the HTC Magic). More recently I have made the switch into #DevRel working as an Android Developer Advocate.

Last month I turned to the dark side and was promoted to manager.

Outside of work I enjoy painting #warhammer, playing #minecraft and building #lego

So amazing to see #mastodon so busy and active!

Our world is connected. We see evidence of that from seeing social media updates from people around the world or news broadcasts that cover events happening from anywhere. But have you considered the physical infrastructure of the internet? Of course there are datacenters, giant buildings with loud computers buzzing away. But those buildings need to be connected to each other, to your modem at home, to mobile cell towers that are sprinkled all over the place, and connected "to the internet". But what does that mean? Contrary to popular belief, satellites are NOT how most information travels the world. Indeed, we have physical cables all over... but instead of sending electrical signals those cables carry light generated by lasers.

These cables not only exist alongside roads and hung on power lines. They're also running along the bottom of the world's oceans. The image attached below is an inventory of each of these underwater internet cables. What I find interesting is how many there are! It seems like a lot. But then when I think more about it I am also amazed at how few there are. If you pay attention you will see news articles describing occasional sabotage of these cables, here's one recently published by Wired: wired.com/story/submarine-inte. This is actually very important to the future and security of the global internet.

My wife loves and . I don't know if it is appropriate for her to be on qoto.org or on a crafting oriented server. She also had CABG/ Open Heart Surgery, and she has a disability for and disorder.

I don't know if anyone on QOTO.Org would identify with that and be in with a group, but it would be good for her to start with a good circle of people that have much to share with her.

@abde Thank you! I'm *far* from being in that business except as someone who plays games and thinks about terrain. I think such simulation may be "prohibitively expensive," but as that is *not* my wheelhouse, it's cool to ask someone for whom it *is.*

Basically, is dynamic hydrology "somewhere out in the future" for games? Is it *really* that expensive? Do developers figure it's simply not worth bothering with? Perhaps nobody would really notice?

I *will* say that has the ocean behavior I only *WISH* Ark Survival had. , you can place water where you think it ought to be to create the appearance you are looking for in terrain. But... still, I don't know unless I ask. :)

@RMFifthcircuit I strongly support this act! It is about time proper use of spacing in proportional fonts be considered in messages. If the designer of the font thought the extra space important, they would have put it in there.

Going forward, all tweets advocating two spaces after a period will result in temporarily losing verified account privileges.

@abde "...feel free to ask any questions!" I am content if you can redirect me to someone "adjacent" within your field, but is there any notion of "hydrodynamic simulation" within games? By this, I mean has a fixed ocean level, no tides. Rivers are created at the same level. "Erosion" is "Kinda-sorta" implemented in terrain generation. Ark:Survival Evolved's terrain is all human crafted with a water plane set for a given area. , same as : Terrain generation with water at a set plane. SimCity iterations, same.

Would you know of work being done to have lakes over oceans, streams, flooding due to weather, tides, and so on? I would love to see this be more common in games featuring terrain generation.
