@Jeffrey_Smith I'm especially amused by the logic that remaining in a problematic space equals acceptance of it, with absolutely no understanding of the reasons why one remains in that space. There are people who, by that logic, would condemn Black Americans for living in the Jim Crow South. Or in any of the United States in any era.

@neroden @mergerson Exactly, and why I am there still following several women of color and referring them to relevant posts by @mergerson. And otherwise not pushing Mastodon. It isn't my religion. It's just a good idea. Why should I write them and their concerns about Mastodon off?

Yeah, that's fair enough. I mean, I'm still on Twitter! I just expect it to explode and collapse any day and I hate seeing people be taken by surprise by that.
@mergerson @neroden So much of the "only reasonable choice" crowd comes across like, "I made a choice based on my religious fever, and you must now accept my religious faith and do as I did or you are now the heathen!"
Sorry folks, I don't do the techno-religious thing. I favor posting here, some I follow will stay on the Bird Site for their reasons. If that isn't good enough, we all have to learn to live with world world world world world world world world. world world d sometime. Today is that day for those making a religion of leaving Twitter.

Stop trying to make "the only ethical choice is to leave Twitter" happen unless you've made the choice to not listen to the Black communities who have explained why it's still important for many.
Yes, the owner is clearly, at a minimum, openly friendly with fascists. Now wait until you hear about the everyday lives of Black Americans in predominantly White communities and workplaces.
Make your choice but do not proclaim it to be "the only" reasonable choice.
It would be reasonable to start making apps that explicitly dropped the "Mothership" model and acted peer-to-peer. An unfortunate side effect of doing so: Without a mothership, monetizing is a nightmare from hell. You would also have to give up authentication, which can be controlled by capitalist surveillance, or by The State either directly or indirectly by laws and lawsuits. The only way to avoid those is "don't have a locus for doing that."
It would be really cool to see someone create a project like that, but I'm not expecting it until it's too late to bother.

7 out of 10 Black voters are worried about voter suppression. 1 out of 5 Black voters have personally experienced voter suppression! Less than 25% of Black voters think the democratic party prioritizes the issues most important for their survival. Now that's disillusionment.
And yet, 50% of Black US voters didn't go full fascist or try to overthrow the government?
In normal folk, disillusionment leads to demands for a better democracy.👍🏿 There are better options than "Fascism or giving up."

@SamuelBepis @freemo @Darkayne FWIW, I've been on QOTO a month now and haven't seen any race science or bigotry. The few moderation decisions I've seen have been thoughtful and nuanced.
@freemo isn't always the best at clearly communicating his intentions, but from everything I've seen so far, his heart appears to be in the right place.
As a member of the LGBTQ community, I never felt anything less than welcomed on QOTO. And, if I had to describe the tone of my Local feed here, it's mostly STEM-related material, but of the few political-or-politics-adjacent posts I see, the vast majority seem to be left-leaning.
I don't know where this dramatic characterization of QOTO being a hive of right-wing disinfo and bigotry comes from, but it really doesn't seem to have any basis in reality.
@PhotonEmpress In general, but I had hoped to be more involved with Mastodon, answering questions and helping new people from the #TwitterMigration. Instead I fell asleep for an hour while scratching and soothing our dog Tilly. She seems to have separation anxiety. I know I do. As I told my wife, I ran out of zippity in my doo-dah.
One more work week then I get to join @mikmaqpeek in Canada.
Posting and involvement requires motivation, enthusiasm. I'm kinda tapped at the moment. It will help when I'm finally in Canada with @mikmaqpeek.
