Hello to my loving wife! I'm glad to greet you here.
https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2018/08/mastodon-quick-start-guide/ has people introducing themselves. You may introduce yourself if you would like, or do that later. And of course, I am always available should you have questions. Love you!
@PhotonEmpress OMG WTF LOL! I'm so glad to meet you here. :)
I'm attempting to be fussy about not proselytizing about @Mastodon on Twitter, but when someone mentions, I try to positively chime in with support if they want in or wish to stay out. May I DM you with one specific tweet I exchanged with someone who might appreciate your *specific* encouragement to consider joining Mastodon?
Or if you think it's better, perhaps I could simply link to something you've already posted about how signing up was for you, your initial impression of what you think the difference will be? (OMG, 65535 characters? What the hell?) What do you think will be the impact of your reach through here as opposed to Twitter? Do you think your presence here will mean you "have" to stop your Twitter presence? And do you have the sense that just maybe you won't have to fight so much here to justify your own existence? My god, that must become tedious and tiresome!
Anyway, so glad to see you here. I'm watching for Marcus House, Mama Doctor Jones, Howard Taylor, and a vast cast of really cool people to show up somewhere on here with things for me to follow via Mastodon. Cheers!
I follow @BrynnTannehill on Twitter. I find her information relevant to me and useful. Her analysis on https://twitter.com/BrynnTannehill/status/1589260924829196290?s=20&t=u9UZPa69QnpL8OcW-7LlIw is grim for Russia, which of course RU is waiting more for victory within the US rather than hoping for it in Ukraine. Reminds me... I need to fill out the ballot now instead of fussing here. #ukraine #TwitterMigration
Explained #Mastodon to my kid and he said that it sounded like how #Minecraft servers work. And we have definitely run our own servers for friends, etc. Only difference is that Minecraft servers can't talk to each other and the software is proprietary. And Mastodon looks like a single pane of glass with all the different servers behind it. In, Minecraft you are very aware when you're on a different server. With Mastodon, you don't really notice too much outside of the group of folks who you normally see toots from. We'll, that's a **lot* of differences. 😄
As the admin of a #minecraft server I spend more time managing everything than actually playing. But last season I did make this cute little island 😅
I'll be sharing more screenshots of builds from the https://blackblock.rocks server via our mascot account, @blake
Now I have moved over time to do a new #introduction post!
Hello everyone, I'm Zachary. I've been an #Android developer since 2009 (long live the HTC Magic). More recently I have made the switch into #DevRel working as an Android Developer Advocate.
Last month I turned to the dark side and was promoted to manager.
Outside of work I enjoy painting #warhammer, playing #minecraft and building #lego
So amazing to see #mastodon so busy and active!
Our world is connected. We see evidence of that from seeing social media updates from people around the world or news broadcasts that cover events happening from anywhere. But have you considered the physical infrastructure of the internet? Of course there are datacenters, giant buildings with loud computers buzzing away. But those buildings need to be connected to each other, to your modem at home, to mobile cell towers that are sprinkled all over the place, and connected "to the internet". But what does that mean? Contrary to popular belief, satellites are NOT how most information travels the world. Indeed, we have physical cables all over... but instead of sending electrical signals those cables carry light generated by lasers.
These cables not only exist alongside roads and hung on power lines. They're also running along the bottom of the world's oceans. The image attached below is an inventory of each of these underwater internet cables. What I find interesting is how many there are! It seems like a lot. But then when I think more about it I am also amazed at how few there are. If you pay attention you will see news articles describing occasional sabotage of these cables, here's one recently published by Wired: https://www.wired.com/story/submarine-internet-cables-egypt/. This is actually very important to the future and security of the global internet.

My wife loves #crochet and #knitting. I don't know if it is appropriate for her to be on qoto.org or on a crafting oriented server. She also had CABG/ Open Heart Surgery, and she has a disability for #panic and #anxiety disorder.
I don't know if anyone on QOTO.Org would identify with that and be in with a group, but it would be good for her to start with a good circle of people that have much to share with her.
For those followers that I do not follow back: in order to keep my timeline safe and interesting I only follow those that I find interesting to discuss with.
However, if you follow me but you don't have an #introduction or #bio full of #hashtags, I will not know what are your interests.
So, please, take some time to introduce yourself and write a bio so that I know who I am dealing with :)
@Valdis Now to figure out how to follow...
Jeffrey Freeman to me:
STEM enthusiast is fine too.. As long as you aren't a flat earther or something stupid and you just want to chat STEM you are most welcome (you can talk about anything though too).
Cool! That's the primary thing I want to do. I also enjoy some political talk, although I'm horribly cynical about politics in general. I play #Minecraft with my wife, currently Bedrock although I'm more familiar with Java. Ark Survival Evolved and #valheim, although we tend to focus on only one specific game for some months at a time until we move on. My Supernatural-Detector-Thingy is broken, so I'm unable to work with supernatural concepts personally. Enough about me for now, I look forward to seeing who I will meet here!
