I must say, that even in the last few days since I joined Mastodon I’ve seen a culture shift - more #politics, more ‘hot takes’, less discussion, fewer #CWs, less #AltText. I hope it’s a blip and urge newbies like me not to unwittingly play out the #coloniser #stereotypes and ride roughshod over the existing culture. It’s a lovely, gentle, curious #community here, would be awful to ruin it because we’re conditioned to something worse.

“Associate with people who are likely to improve you.” -Seneca I feel like I am trying to find more people to learn from on Mastodon, as I once did on Twitter and other social media. 🙂

I am now compiling a list of all servers who may have an interest in joining the United Federation of Instances.

Quite a few instances have already signed up.

Please reach out to me, all servers of any size are welcome!

This is non binding, its just to get a preliminary list. You can withdrawl at any time and dont have to go through the application process. I just want to know what servers to reach out to once we begin kicking things off.

If you are a server admin please let me know **in DM** if you have an interest and I will add you to the (for now) private list. I want to only release the list once we have enough momentum so please respond in DM only.

for those who are new to this you can read the proposal here:

ufoi.gitlab.io/constitution/un

You can read the early draft of the full bylaws here:

ufoi.gitlab.io/constitution/un

Both of these will still undergo a lot of modification. For information on how to join the conversation see this post:

You can see the progress and conversation specifically at the official repo here:

"Education as a whole is not a problem waiting to be fixed but a set of issues, problems, and opportunities to be addressed." (Weller, 2022).

I'm an advocate for #DesignThinking. Not as a way of solving problems but as a way of exploring the world. This idea comes from Jon Kolko, a designer.

This thinking helps push past the idea that #education is broken and opens up to us (educators) the opportunity to explore issues, opportunities and problems and develop new approaches (small) based on evidence and feedback.

This is me just unpacking my thinking. 😋 @edutooters

@mjambon This is an example of the popup I get when I try to follow them from a page on their home server. I click the "Copy" button and then bring that back and paste it in the search box on my server.

@mjambon My experience has been I've clicked on "Follow" on the person's home page on their server. It often gives me a popup with the option to copy the person's URL. Then, I go back to where I am logged in on my server and put their URL in the search box and hit enter. When their profile comes up this time, I'm logged in on my server and I can follow them.

@AlliFlowers @tootapp What is cool about the hashtag lists though is it pulls in toots from everyone, not just people you follow. I’ve found toots I wouldn’t otherwise have seen and new people to follow because of hashtag lists. 😃

@AlliFlowers @tootapp But if you’re not a big list user then you may not need that functionality. I only had a couple I used on the birdsite myself.

@AlliFlowers @tootapp I’ve been making lists here based on hashtags rather than people. So I can pop over to my or lists when I want to see toots focused on those subjects. I can pull those lists up in the Toot! app.

@AlliFlowers @tootapp I did try Metatext first, but preferred Toot! Toot! allows me to access the lists I create and also allows me to add people to lists. Metatext didn’t do that; only allowed access to Home, Local, and Federated timelines. Worth the $3.99 in my opinion.

@AlliFlowers Are you on an iPhone or iPad? If so, did you try Toot!? It’s the best in my opinion, but it’s only for iOS.

I will die on this hill telling everyone that wants to write opinion pieces about this platform over the next few months that THIS IS A MAMMOTH, NOT A MASTODON!!!! Please #mastodon, help.

“Let’s not forget how many Republicans have chosen to minimize the Jan. 6 attack, which included insurrectionists wearing shirts emblazoned with ‘Camp Auschwitz’ and ‘6MWNE,’ that is, six million were not enough.”

@TomRaftery Ah sorry! I know they don’t always publish worldwide. I’m in the U.S. You also might not see it if you have your Google home page customized. Google keeps an archive of their doodles, though. Hopefully you can see it here: google.com/doodles/gerald-jerr

If you haven’t checked out the today honoring video game pioneer Jerry Lawson, you need to! Take time to play with it a bit (and if you are in the classroom let your students play, too). Watch this 4 minute video about Jerry Lawson and the Doodle and share it with your students: youtu.be/RLQO_RWCOoQ @edutooters
