"waah waaah mastodon is slow and glitchy sometimes, how can you bear it"
bitch I grew up with dial up. I scrolled endlessly through the hampster dance, half the jpegs broken. I spent an hour looking for and downloading a simple mp3. I waited my 54 minutes to continue watching a ropey stream of true blood with unsynced audio. I still use tumblr. you are like tiny baby
@HappyShappys "War is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength."
This is what a society without #FreeSpeech looks like.
@drakbailey because then the railroads would have an opportunity to talk about how frighteningly over capacity the US rail system is and ask how the FRA might need to adjust regulations so we can prevent, as the UP put it, "as few as four missed departures could cause a cascading failure that would back up rail operations for weeks or months."
@TheRaDR I disagree. Being unhoused is dangerous. If mental illness is causing homelessness than it is presenting a significant dangers to that person which is one of the criteria for mandating treatment.
Just when it seems the news couldn’t get any worse, they discover 4,000 new pages of #Hegel.
@chicagocyber oh and let us not forget "Giving Tuesday"
@youknowkempa you understand that it is not the direct financial cost, but the potential for a cascading system backup that is at issue here right? UP estimated that cancelation of as few as 4 departures could reduce their system to near 0 capacity for a month or more.
@BookClub @JaneEyreZH I just finished a second reading of *A Closed and Common Orbit*. So far I've loved almost everything of hers I've read.
It's been one month since you-know-who bought you-know-what, so a lot of people are approaching their one month anniversary on Mastodon (and maybe other parts of the Fediverse, but newcomers seem to start out on Masto).
If it's your anniversary I suggest you post with the hashtag #MastoMonth and tell us about your experience.
What do you love? What do you hate? What do you still not understand? Share your story and ask questions!
And... happy #Fediversary!
I hate phones
I'm trying to figure out which phone to buy to replace my old Samsung Galaxy A3 with. Android 8, woefully lacking in storage space, and falling apart. Yeah, definitely needs replacing.
So I've been looking around. Glanced at the S20 FE and A33, both suggested by people I know. Then glanced over at the A53, even debated A52, but either they're too pricy or there's something not quite right in the reviews I've read that makes me hesistant to throw a lot of money at it.
I am still of the opinion that phones shouldn't be expensive. 200-ish euro should be fine enough.
I'm so tempted to just go eff it and buy an A13 4G instead. 175 euro, seems still sane, and the phone is in every aspect an improvement on my old A3 that I've managed to use for almost 5 years now. :P
I really will need to make a decision by tomorrow when it's Cyber Frigging Monday. I am hugely disappointed at the 'discounts' given so far around here.

Good morning! A post just rolled across my fedi-timeline saying not to post about politics on Mastodon, so I'm here to remind you that:
1 "politics" refers to decision-making about how to live together in groups
2 choosing to not participate in political discussion is saying you support the status quo, and is a political stance
3 abstaining from politics because you feel safe from its impacts is a privilege and a choice to abandon your more vulnerable neighbours
Automotive troubles
@peterdrake Just a reminder that you don't need the full current load to activate the solenoid on the shifter. Just about any 12v supply you can find will get you into neutral even if it wont get the engine to turn over.
Dentist: So, do you floss?
Me: Do you use a unique password for every account?
This year I learned Minkowski sums work nicely on convex polygons as well as segments.
Like a simple example, the sum of this triangle and segment is a 3D prism if nonplanar, or a pentagon if coplanar. The pentagon has 5 edges, 2 edges of the triangle, and 2 edges as two sides of the segment (or digon).
A trivial property is the sum of equilateral polygons is a new equilateral one. As well, the "internal sums" define multiple convex dissection of the perimeter polygon.

@InayaShujaat@mastodon.nz @geekgirl397 May I invoke the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 19) "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."
Similar language can be found in Article 11 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
The US Constitution is one of the oldest legal documents enshrining freedom of speech, but it is far from the only one.
