@youknowkempa now tell me which Senators voted for the bill to end the strike but against 7 days paid sick leave.

If there's one thing I would like to see change about #fediblock, it would be that I would like to see the reasons why you are implementing the ban, beyond two words. Screenshots of said bad behavior, etc.. so that other #mastoadmin can have more context to judge for themselves and their own users.

Right now it feels very "he said, she said" with no receipts, drama between server admins blocking without talking to each other, etc...

@atomicpoet there is no process or responsibility for why instances are on this list. It is worse that just one persons opinion, it is one persons uninformed snap judgment. This is bad for the fediverse.

"The law is clear. We cannot write a rule that allows any subject of a search warrant to block government investigations after the execution of the warrant. Nor can we write a rule that allows only former presidents to do so."

@webuiltthiscity If my older zoomer kids post on IG at all, it's to stories so their friends see it. More like Snapchat, I guess. They don't love social media in general. Not in the way my GenX generation adopted it.

@baruch so when it comes to accountability are you claiming the there is no difference between dropping the egg while cooking breakfast and throwing it at your car?

@nomi It is the same with anything that can have no effect. "What I'd there are an infinite number of alternative universes that we cannot interact with?" Irrelevant.

On the other hand the question is always nor ever or just not yet? Is reality a simulation? Irrelevant until either the simulator decides to alter or end the simulation. Is it a computer or a human? Irrelevant so long as they truly are indistinguishable, but I would always have a suspicion that at some point I would discover a distinction.

I think the possibility that two things that are indistinguishable may not always remain so drives a lot of the debate on these topics.

I hold the philosophical position that if two things are indistinguishable, their difference is irrelevant.

"What if we live in a simulation?" -- irrelevant
"What if you couldn't tell the difference between taking to a computer and a real person?" -- irrelevant

But more precisely, it's begging the question to say "imagine something was indistinguishable, now how would you treat it differently???"

Comet C/2020 F3 "NEOWISE" reflected in Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, California (7/10/2020).

This is a single frame. There was moon light illuminating Fannette Island and the bay. I did a little dodging and burning and color grading in #darktable running on a Linux box.

Looking for a reading recommendation (book, website, etc.) For teaching myself better circuit design. Ideally I'd like it to include designing for robustness in non ideal environments and have a good section on PCB layout.

I have read Horowitz & Hill's "The Art of Electronics" and regularly fix existing installations, but I'm at a point where I may need to implement a board that includes a logic chip that no longer exists.

Welcome to #Whammageddon. The challenge: during the month of December, go as long as possible without hearing the song “Last Christmas” by Wham. Post when you lose. Covers don’t count. Have fun.

They should give Donald Trump’s tax returns to Justice Alito so everyone will know what’s in them.

@natematias censoring something when it is clear there is a piece missing does naturally lead to the question "what was there?" It does not apply well when there is no obvious gap in a data set. There is also the issue of celebrity. If this account was blocked very few would know and fewer would care. If George Tekai's account vanished people would ask where it went and why.

@nancybaym @natematias i have been very upfront that I coined it as a joke many years ago, and then it took on a life of its own, without me doing anything in support of it after the initial coinage.

I think that @shengokai has had a lot of important things to say on the topic of Mastodon and race, so was really glad to see him interviewed for this piece - and also this quote from @creatrixtiara highlights an incredibly important point. fastcompany.com/90817452/can-m

I wanted an instance
- in

- that did not block other , at most muted but open
- with open minded
- with extended functionalities
- oriented

I ended up with , pretty happy about it!

Have also considered:

Hi. It would help me a lot if I could get a HEAP of responses to this poll. The goal is to get a decent enough sample for the results to be predictive of the wider user-base right now. I dislike asking for boots but this is SCIENCE... or something. (Thanks.)

How do you use Mastodon MOST of the time?

On a phone, or other touch screen device?

OR

On a device with a keyboard like a laptop or desktop computer?

(If it's half and half choose the middle option.)

It is really just a rebranding of NWS data, but ad free and in far more detail than commercial sites that are also just skins over NWS.

Also I can pretend that I still have time to go flying.
