What is the future of Twitter?

If you're worried about the uptime of various Mastodon instances let's cast our minds back to the time that Twitter was so bad at this that it was made into a children's book as a joke: macbarnett.com/billy-twitters-

Me: There's a concern that, with so many PhDs being snapped up by industry, there won't anyone to train the next generation of researchers.

Colleague: I guess they'll just have to use .... unsupervised learning.

Did some stress testing of a design, and found a situation where a dead short of an output could exceed the rated power of a resistor.

After a few minor changes, that vulnerability no longer exists.

Always design your systems so that people can connect inputs to inputs, outputs to outputs, outputs to ground, and outputs to power.

It's just so much more friendly that way.

There are about a dozen really bad actors, once you block those servers you cover the bulk of the content. Works well. The main reason we **dont** block servers was at the LGBTQ's communities request. At the time Milo was on Gab and they used accounts here to follow him so they could see when he doxxed someone and use it to warnt he community (as was the norm at the time and a big deal). In fact its why we added the subscribe feature, specifically so they could follow people without being identifiable as doing so.

Its one reason we dont block, its like putting blocks in a web browser, it hurts the victims too.

If you use qoto.org as your server and the bouncing little thing in the blue box at the bottom of the screen is driving you nuts add "inst.ance.tk/v/*" to the block list on your favorite add blocker.

Ok Timeline. The #twittermigration thing is now over, okay? Can we go back to actual content?

Got my new 4145B Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer up and running. It was a really pain finding triaxial cables that weren't more expensive than the unit was.

It's really neat to be able to characterize diodes and transistors with this.

This is a language anti-pattern that needs to be called out and dissuaded:

* An important social or scientific concept with a precise meaning that would take a journal article to explain gets a vernacular short hand because social media has character limits.
* The vernacular term gets reinterpreted by its opponents to be as broad and general as possible completely ignoring the fact that it is simply a linguistic tag for a very precise phenomena.
* Someone with "expertise" in the field than makes a viral post about how absurd the broadened term is completely ignoring the original precise meaning.

Something that I liked about Twitter was the lack of hierarchy. Hierarchy and elitism are some of the worst aspects of #academia, and social networks provide us with a strategy to break the cycle of privilege that perpetuates inequity. I’m looking forward to seeing how we can do the same on here! #Inclusivity #TwitterMigration

Attempting one last for the year before it becomes too wet cold and dark.

You see, this is exactly the problem. We're trying to take the Fediverse out of the ghettos while people like this defend their slice of hell.

It is, in fact, all about reach. This is a SOCIAL NETWORK.

There are people who do not want the Fediverse to grow. They want it to remain obscure on purpose because it's the only way they'll ever be relevant. We need to steamroll over these retards.

Your a traitor to the Fediverse who only cares about reach. The culture is a obscure platform and journalists ruin that

As we come up to the in the US, I have a thought: We cannot stop the wave of political advertising, but could we tax it heavily? Maybe use the revenue to even out election funding, or have a nice pot of general fund money waiting for the winners.

So apparently the only thing people talk about on this sight is leaving twitter. . Look folks, if this is going to be an alternative to that bird app you got to bring some content.
