@freemo oh absolutely. It is their loss in the end. I think it’s a good approach to sometimes make them at least aware off it even if they decide against it.
@trinsec that conversation saved my day 😂
@Wormhole_Eddie Architecture can definitely be art but at the same time always has a functional approach.
I hope you are aware of the Reichert Foundation’s Equipment Grants, for those in the #ITeachPhysics community: http://jfreichertfoundation.org/alpha-immersions/
As Evidence Mounts, New Concerns About Fracking and Health.
Two decades after the advent of #fracking, a growing number of studies are pointing to a link between gas wells and health problems, particularly among children and the elderly. Researchers are now calling for new regulations restricting where wells can be located.

Today is #WorldPancreaticCancerDay💜and #CervicalCancer🎗️Elimination Day of Action.
Yet, I notice that neither have found their way to my Mastodon feed…
Give me a shout if you’re interested in what were doing under the #EUCancerPlan.
I will give big points to the first news organization, big or small, that:
* Sets up an instance for its newsroom,
* Sets up an instance for the community it serves,
* Enables rel=me for staff,
* Creates a boost-on-Mastodon sharing function,
* Enhances that function so headlines/images (with alt-text) appear in the toot,
* Covers the Fediverse as more than a geeky curiosity or alt-Twitter,
* Listens to and joins in the conversation here.
Thanks, @freemo, for going the extra mile. I get the reason why you made the rules on the server the way they are. And I have to say I respect and accept their reasoning for blocking us (even if it’s not always based on facts, it’s their right). It’s what makes this place special. You can make your rules. So if they want to block us, that’s their loss first and foremost. I am glad we get to participate and decide in which content we see. Leaving it basically in the hands of everyone here on QOTO.

@nullifidian I have the DS420+ because it’s big enough for what I need at home. But if you need the extra space the DS420+ is the way to go of course. That being said, should you need it to handle more and bigger tasks then the DS920+ would be the better future-proof option (2 more CPU cores). The whole system from Synology and the DSM software platform are easy to use. And as far as I remember, the price difference between DS920+ and DS420+ was not that big. So to be on the safe side and if money is not too much ab issue, go with the DS920+

Do you follow too many people?
Do you want to organise your Mastodon home timeline into several themed mini-timelines that are easier to navigate?
You can do this on Mastodon using the "Lists" feature, and here's a guide all about it:
https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-advanced-tips/#UsingListsOnMastodon
You can use Lists on third party apps like Tusky for Android or Metatext for iPhone/iPad, or on your server's website.
@oni thanks for sharing. Just keep staring at it instead of working

@nullifidian I use Synology for about a year. No problems so far.
I guess I should do #introduction? For all the people who aren't following me. ;-)
Ahem. I'm a #software engineer and a (mostly) PC #gamer, although I can't play FPS games because motion sickness. I''ve got an undergrad degree in #computerscience and a masters in #oceanography (yes, I know that's an unusual combination). I worked in airborne and #satellite #remotesensing (mostly) of the oceans for twelve years (a few publications but nothing first-author, I was doing tech rather than science) before gradually drifting back to software engineering via weather radar. Also spent most of that time as a #tradeunion rep - strong believer in the necessity of collective bargaining and collective action as a counterbalance to over-emphasised executive/management power.
Mostly coding in #python these days and trying to get my head around #aws.
Want to study bumblebees in the Arctic? The impact of global warming on pollinators? There's an open PhD position in Richard Gill's lab at in London https://www.gillinsectresearch.com
The PhD ad is a PDF: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imperial-college/grantham-institute/public/dtp/2023-projects/2023_52_DoLS_Gill.pdf
"Our knowledge of how interaction networks, such as plant-pollinator relationships, are being
affected by climate change remains in its infancy. This is primarily due to us having a limited
understanding of the underlying mechanisms determining how plant and pollinator
populations respond to climatic variation."
"This project will study an Arctic plant-pollinator community located in Lapland (Sweden) by
taking advantage of a unique phenology transect spanning an elevational gradient."
