"Since 2019, we have been maintaining the Allen Ancient DNA Resource (AADR), which aims to provide an up-to-date, curated version of the worldโ€™s published ancient human DNA data, represented at more than a million single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at which almost all ancient individuals have been assayed."

"Our findings suggest that a low education is a risk factor for adult mortality, after controlling for age, sex, and marital status. We find that, on average, an adult with 12 years of schooling has a 24ยท5% (95% UI 23ยท0โ€“26ยท1) lower risk of mortality compared with an adult with no schooling, with an average reduction in mortality risk of 1ยท9% (1ยท8โ€“2ยท0) per year of schooling. The protective effect of higher education on mortality was significant across age, sex, period, birth cohort, and Socio-demographic Index level and did not attenuate at higher levels of education."

"It is a puzzle why humans tend toward unrealistic optimism, as it can lead to excessively risky behavior and a failure to take precautionary action. Using data from a large nationally representative U.K. sample (N=36, 312) our claim is that optimism bias is partly a consequence of low cognitionโ€”as measured by a broad range of cognitive skills, including memory, verbal fluency, fluid reasoning and numerical reasoning."

"We document phases of instability and cooling from ~100 CE onward but more notably after ~130 CE. Pronounced cold phases between ~160 to 180 CE, ~245 to 275 CE, and after ~530 CE associate with pandemic disease, suggesting that climate stress interacted with social and biological variables."
