How to DESTROY Anyone in an Argument

"Philosophers are often thought of as truth-seekers, but often people are more interested in the mucky world of simple debate, and there is a sardonic, sarcastic essay by Schopenhauer that can help us out here - "On the Art of Being Right". In here he compiles a series of tactics used (often highly dishonestly) to secure victory in an argument even when one is misinformed, or just downright wrong."

As years turn into decades, I am seeing a pattern in #IT where most practitioners no longer #read.

: concupiscence (n.)

"ardent desire, improper or illicit desire, lustful feeling," mid-14c., from Old French concupiscence and directly from Late Latin concupiscentia "eager desire," from present-participle stem of Latin concupiscere, inceptive of concupere "to be very desirous of," from assimilated form of com-, here perhaps an intensive prefix (see com-), + cupere "to long for" (see cupidity). Used in Vulgate to translate Greek epithymia."

When a person has to intellectually contort themselves more than the most accomplished contortinist it may be time for his/her audience to realise that arriving at the truth is not the speaker's main objective.

If you want to know why some people are deceptive, ask yourself this : how many of their aims can be achieved without employing ?
