So I moved my walk.
Contractor says he’s never seen anyone do it before? On rollers, with basically no powered tools and small help I shifted and leveled these 6 concrete slabs heavier than me and then using my 25 years rusty masonry skills filled in with salvaged mostly concrete pavers, a few marble curb pieces, and some brick from my house. I saved this much new concrete from being made. I saved some fossil fuel generated energy. Plus I saved some money on a gym membership ha ha jk dad bod 4 eva. Also just realized the new walk runs directly between my two most-used rain barrels! Now I will plant native edible ground cover and shrubs and some fruit trees, it’ll be awesome

8/ Now I'm not the biggest booster of the web. In fact, I've long since said that the Internet needs to decentralize away from it.

Nevertheless, the web is a tool -- an important tool -- and we'd be remiss if we didn't acknowledge that basic HTML (with hyperlinking) can do a whole lot of things that can address inequality on the Internet.

If you're an activist and you worry about censorship from Meta and Facebook, building your own website and self-hosting it is an incredible tool.

I used to wake up & check the news on the bird site. Now, I surf Mastodon over a bowl of granola & oat milk & my mornings are so much more enjoyable. I mean, I see lots of toots about the bad things going on in the world still, but the convo is chill, nuanced, factual & in & amongst all the bad news is GOOD NEWS. People are successfully restoring coral reefs? Yes! Art long thought lost to the nazis has been recreated? YES!

Decided to try my hand at Stable Diffusion and I think I may have found a new hobby. If I can stay disciplined, learn and refine the tool, well, next year's holiday cards are going to be amazing. And if not, next year's holiday cards are going to be baffling and deeply unsettling. I'm perfectly comfortable with either outcome.

I haven't done a recent #intro because I was account #2 around here but we've got lots of new folks, so hi! I am one of the co-founders of the Wandering Shop, though @phildini and I are now emeritus, having recently transitioned main responsibilities to @Johannab and @offby1.

I'm an open source technologist, science fiction writer, and feminist, and in spite of all of that, I am not Annalee Newitz :).

My short fiction has appeared in a few places, including The Magazine Of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Fireside, Futurescapes. I co-run The Bias with @eilatan. We'll revive it eventually.

By day I manage a team building security features for one of the world's most widely used open source projects. It's not hard to figure out which one but I try to keep that separate from my personal social media/sff community presence.

And I'm heavily involved in my regional Quaker community.
