@peterdrake
I agree in general with your sentiment.
Except for one thing:
> 'Saying it's up to individual users to block things they don't want to see feels a bit privileged.'
We don't mind other instances blocking other instances. The problem is that the toxic ones do so for the wrong reasons. Like blocking others because they don't block the same instances as they do, and then trying to convince other instances to block the same.
If one instance wants to block half the Fediverse, that's up to them. Totally. They can be a walled garden for all I care. But then to spread their blocklist and say 'this is the one true safe blocklist' seems ... well, they basically become the very people they hate.
What can we do to work towards a much more diverse and anti-racist Mastodon? https://techpolicy.press/the-whiteness-of-mastodon/

I added an extra server to the #QOTO cloud. This should speed up our services, in particular gitlab and discourse were using up too much cpu, but now they are fine. Those services should run much smoother now.
@vascorsd I did see another toot refer to monads as the m word. Does it have baggage because of haskell? I guess it has an ivory tower vibe.
@RellaPdx That is very inspiring. I would love to have even 2 months bills budgeted. I am glad I came across your post. It is encouraging to see that and I will give it another try.
Are their any fellow YNAB users out there in Mastodon-land?
@RellaPdx I am an on and off ynab user. My longest streak is about 3 months. :) I have a side gig that I work on in the evening which will stop at the end of the year. Im telling myself I will restart then.
How do you like it? What keeps you motivated to stick with it?
Haven't usef the language, I find the language nice, but the amount of effort to avoid calling things by their names and all the work to invent new syntax to work with #monads dissapoints me. Let's see what this all evolves into.

As a Sunday side-project, I'm going to start following this tutorial on making a roguelike game with Rust and Specs 💫
I've always wanted to learn more about Rust, ECS and Roguelike-dev, so this tutorial is a perfect combination! I'll try to slowly finish it and let you know about the results weekly 🤓
@Gaythia yeah, I admit I had some uncomfortableness when I saw posts about Thanksgiving earlier so it took a bit to come around. I agree it’s easier to choose sweeping it under the rug. Also, it’s easy to fall into the trap of “my specific, direct ancestors didn’t do this” but I benefit from these atrocities by being an American.
On this day of the Fall Harvest Feast in the US, I'll share one of my highlights of the year: Grand Entry at the 41st Annual Kamloopa Pow Wow, hosted by the Secwepemc people of the Tk’emlúps Nation, by the site of the Kamloops Residential School where 215 unmarked graves were discovered last year. The pow wow came back after 3 years off, with 20,000 visitors and 1,500 dancers over 3 magical days. #Powwow #FirstNations #Indigenous #BIPOC #BC #Canada
@Gaythia wow, that was a lot worse than I could have imagined. Thank you for sharing that. I have a lot to learn.

Really awoken to the possibility of teaching/learning more about the actual history Thanksgiving based on posts I saw today. I will try using this guide with my son tomorrow.
Which I found through this article:

I know at least some of the massacres, land theft and genocide that we as Americans have committed against Native Americans but oddly I never really saw how badly I was taught/learned about Thanksgiving as a child. Hopefully I will build a stronger foundation for my children in understanding and reconciling with the past.
It's ripe for abuse. The intention is good, but there's no way to shield it from abuse and money.
Check the thread, some even suggested:
1. a scoring system for accounts (a.k.a. China's National Social Credit system) (federated or local)
2. labels (federated or local)
3. If a server doesn't block a user, the server should defederate, or the other admins will block the entire server
4. Algorithms
Etc.
Just broke into software development. Currently struggling to grasp C!
