@freemo

I have sent the author a DM from my other account, at a different instance, thanking him for the nice tool and inviting a visit to this thread if he likes.

@renatolond

Because I am getting to know and experimenting with a new tool (Crossposter for Twitter and Mastodon - crossposter.masto.donte.com.br), I missed a configuration option, and my post above did not include the proper OP linky.

It's here, and has been very popular there too. twitter.com/Gurdur/status/1198

...and upon experimenting, I realize why something did not work as expected - my fault for missing a check box, to get RT with LINKS included.

It's all there, both for original posts and for Quote (a ReTweet where someone added their own text on top of a RT original).

Done and all should work as expected now.

Tested and it works to include a mention to someone's Fediverse address - it went thru perfectly, and became live in the Fediverse as soon as cross-posted here.

Awesome tool. :thumbsup_hmn_h2:

@renatolond

ReToot of a ReTweet, so fellow QOTO folks don't miss it.

Amazing, wonderful. 👍 sending over to @design_RG

An aerial view of a sheepdog as it demonstrates fluid mechanics, and it also shows a sheep is a particle, while a flock is a wave.

@johnlitt They both have good points. A local server could be available no matter the status of the Internet connection. And local traffic would not need to go out, it's all inside private network address space.

If you have enough uses for it, it would make sense to spend the time and energy (electricity included) to keep one up.

Haven't used a VDM server until now, so my experience on that is very limited.

@freemo

Playing with and testing the crossposter, lots of fine controls for privacy, etc. Well thought and designed interface, and it works well, as advertised.

Great work Renato!

By sheer chance, I had seen an ad yesterday for someone selling their rigs in the regional online classifieds.

Not as neat as the examples above, pics attached. Asking price is CAD$1300, about 1K USD.

Don't know how well this setup would compare to Jeff's, but the listing is here atm - will disappear soon if sold.

@birdtowncomics Yuo are very welcome!

Have you ever tried Japanese Haiku?

I think you would enjoy and do well at it!

...and then you see a random post fly by and discover an intriguing fellow fediversian.

Breath of fresh air, can't find people like this in the main stream soc media hellholes. TY!!

Cats Who Code

@johnlitt Ah, I wouldn't know.

The emoticons you used, they represent the rhythm?

@esperera_98 It's a wonderful film, hopefully someone who hasn't seen it yet might discover it via our posting here. 😉

@johnlitt

Witchhunting was very useful to get rid of any unwanted, opinionated people.

Plus, confiscate their property, the judge could decide how to dispose of it....

@johnlitt

wild guessing, but something by The Police?

Di-di-di, da-da-da, etc comes to mind.

Probably off, but curious.

@chikara Thank you for a nice and relevant post. The process is ongoing, we haven't reached conclusions yet.

There were many goopd posts and points made, we had people participating from different instances even. The question of controlling undesirable actions and content being add to any particular instance or service is important.

The voting on the open survey you mentioned had very small number of votes, and even those were not restricted to local, verified users. So I wouldn't take it as a mandate for a certain direction.

Qoto is in a way VERY unusual - in having this kind of discussion out in the open, on a public feed, that is spread out across the whole Fediverse and the Federation too.

(yes, there's TWO biggies, I have learned recently)

I have been participating in many networks actively for many years, starting from the pre-Internet days. And this kind of discussion was held "In Camara", on meetings for site staff, or on a physical meet at some public space in case of a local entity.

While we had that and another related big discussion (the instance's thematic focus and the surging unrelated, general posting by new users).

That is equally important, and also was done in the open.

Meanwhile, posting continued as usual, but I think we are making progress.

Leadership is important in all kinds of aspects in life. Here as well, there's space for anyone who is caring and willing to pitch in.

Visited Jeff's blog earlier this morning, to see a poem he linked to, a nice one.

Noticed a link to other post, and it's a lovely article - about operating a crypto mining at home, with off the shelf components. Which paid for itself nicely, despite what we hear about server farms being unbeatable (which is true for Bit Coin, BTC)

His setup was specifically for mining Ether, and by nature that process benefit systems using Graphics cards for the processing.

Very cool project! Glad it worked out, the hardware is exquisite. He explains it well too. 🎅
