@drewfer Ah, nice. I was thinking it was Turkey as in, the country. Beautiful beaches there too.

This looks like a great place to relax and catch sunlight. ☀️ 😎

@realcaseyrollins Wonderful!

Relax, take a breath, go there and do your best. Fingers crossed, good luck!

@maison_faim@mstdn.social Very glad if it helps, Maison. Any questions, send it and tag me, I will get around to it if not online.

@drewfer Very nice photo. Was it taken now or earlier in Summer?

Quite comforting with the cold weather here.

hello Maison, welcome to the fediverse.

I thnk you found a related post I made a f minutes ago, about this very topic -- using the hash tags or you can find nice posts people made recommending good accounts.

I was honoured to be included in one, made by our sys admin at Qoto, even being a new user. Yey. 😉

As you go around and see conversations, join them and you might find interesting people there too.

I imagine the Local feed at your home instance must be pretty busy, ours is pretty quiet sometimes (and I go hunting on other instances for interesting conversations)

Have fun!

Don't know if you need it, but there's a good guide to Mastodon here: lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-gu

You can find many good suggestions from people's Follow on Friday's posts, usually hashed as or .

qoto.org/web/timelines/tag/fol shows many posts, and is worth checking.

The sys admin here posted one of those a couple of weeks ago.

@freemo

@spike Yep, I agree. Don't like all the visual noise those things bring in, specially at road side, intersections.

We don't need that.

A New and interesting Mastodon Guide project

A New and interesting Mastodon Guide project is being developed. I saw a post from one of the authors yesterday on birdsite, he was looking for translations for French and Spanish.

Gave it a read later, it's probably a Mid Level guide - I learned things I did not know until now, for example.

But I think a bit too detailed for a totally new user. Maybe moving the extensive section on Instances down further into the guide, or as subsection, could help.

Including here some screenshots of something that until now baffled me -- the bizarre way threads break out into tangents if people do not keep the same @ attributions and people in their post.

Coming from the Forums world, that is weird for me, and a Bug, not a Feature as far as I am concerned. 😜

@spike Fair reporting, a BSOD windows and a Kernel panic linux equivalent. 😜

They look fun on those huge outdoor screens.

@spike
It depends on the time of the day. Some people come in, others check out for sleep. The user count and post graphs show some of the spikes.

But it is indeed a quiet instance, considering the number of user accounts.

Sometimes I jump into other systems to find some ongoing thread to join, or post new things too.

The Home feed will get more interesting and lively as you add Follows, they all show in there. The Federated feed is always busy, it shows posts from all users followed by anyone here in Qoto. That is a lot of data flashing by.

@freemo

@Zyzzyva an older machine needs lighter software, I would suggest you give FF or Waterfox a try.

Uses a lot less resources than Chrome, and is not tied into their ecosystem and espionage.
